I see parallels with the Canadian conservative party and the tactics Bush used to win votes. Here comes the magic word "Faith." Damn, people shouldn't mix their faith with politics. In addition the leaders don't really care about faith they are just using it as tool to gain votes.

Just remember Canadians, your conservative party is a secret extension of the American Republican Party, so if you don't like George Bush you should never ever vote for them, even when they appear to disagree with him vehemently.

Bush ex-adviser appeals to faithful to get involved and get the vote out

TORONTO -- The man known to have blazed the trail for the religious-conservative movement in the United States rallied Canadian faith leaders yesterday, urging them to get behind the vote.

Ralph Reed, who led hundreds of thousands of members of the religious right to get the vote out during the era of former U.S. presidents Ronald Reagan and George Bush, told delegates to a Christian conference last night to put on their work boots and tennis shoes and knock on doors.

"Come Jan. 23, there's going to be a new Canada of conservative traditional values," he told a cheering crowd of 400 people who greeted his remarks with a standing ovation.

"History is not static and the making of that history will begin on Jan. 23 when the people of Canada go to the polls," he said.

Dr. Reed, who was also the senior adviser to the campaign of U.S. President George W. Bush and executive director of the Christian Coalition, has the legacy of building what has been called one of the most influential grassroots organizations in modern U.S. politics. He worked to continue down the same track last night.

"We're not trying to change a church into a political party, and we're not trying to change a political party into a church, but if the people of the church don't get involved, somebody else will."

His appearance marked a significant moment in Canadian politics, triggering the question of whether a similar conservative Christian groundswell is possible in Canada.

A recent Globe and Mail/CTV poll showed that 37 per cent of born-again Christian voters would pick the Conservative Party; 30 per cent from the same group said they would vote for the Liberals, and one in five intended to vote NDP.

Several Toronto-area Conservative candidates were in attendance, including Jim Flaherty, John Carmichael, Rondo Thomas, Michael Mostyn, and Tim Dobson.

Charles McVety, president of Canada Christian College, said yesterday any political changes in Canada would not be nearly as extreme as they have been south of the border. "The demographics are just too different," he said. "There will never be an evangelical movement here."

But any change, he said, is what he's after.

"Down in the U.S., they're making a difference in school boards, in city governments, in state governments and in the federal government. If you want what they have, you have to do what they did."

He said that would include polling canvassing, recruiting and raising money.

Joseph Ben-Ami, president of the Institute for Canadian Values, the organization that ran yesterday's conference, said Canada's religious right is just at the "increasing-votes" stage.

"This last government has been a wakeup call for Canadians of faith," he said, referring to the legalization of gay marriage and a bill proposing to legalize marijuana.

"We've realized there's a reason why our interests are not successful and that's because we're not involved. We want Canadians of faith to become active in the policy-making process, and we want to shift the centre of gravity in this government."

Mr. Reed is said to have the ear of ministers across the country and to maintain huge mail and phone lists of citizens who can be spurred into action.

I third that.....and remember Paul Martin's Liberals ain't a far cry either......
