RADICAL RIGHT -- FORD MOTOR CO. CAVES TO RIGHT WING'S HOMOPHOBIC AGENDA: Ford Motor Company has announced that "it will cut back on advertising in gay-oriented publications" after the right-wing American Family Association (AFA) threatened a boycott of the company for Ford's "track record for supporting the homosexual agenda." In the past, Ford received praise from gay rights organizations, promoting LGBT workplace diversity and donating to gay causes, including the Human Rights Campaign. While Jaguar and Land Rover ads will be pulled from gay publications, a Ford spokesperson could not confirm whether donations to LGBT organizations will continue. AFA chairman, Donald E. Wildmon, was pleased with Ford's decision: "They've heard our concerns," he said. "They are acting on our concerns." The right-wing Christian organization, Focus on the Family, was less successful in convincing its banker, Wells Fargo, to change its agenda. Focus has fired Wells Fargo after the banking company's decision to make a matching grant to the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD).

LOL I guess they are afraid people will see them in their Explorer and think they are gay, instead of just stupid for driving a big gas guzzler?

The US Constitution creates a separation of Church and State. The founding fathers didn't believe that Religion belonged in the business of running or influencing a government. The modern day evidence of this is the Middle Eastern Theocratic oppressive indoctrinated regimes. The Bush people have ignored this, and instituted programs like using federal tax monies to fund Christian based relief organizations, passed laws based solely on religious tenets, in an attempt to pander their votes. This has given the Christian Right increased political bravado to use their influence to influence public policy based on their religious beliefs. An economic extension of this new gained power is to threaten corporations with economic reprisal (withholding their business) unless the corporation kowtows their religious line. They also are attempting to force their beliefs on others who don't share their views, on God, or morality. From Thomas Jefferson one of the writers of the U.S. Constitution:

"Believing... that religion is a matter which lies solely between man and his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, and not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their Legislature should 'make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,' thus building a wall of separation between Church and State." --Thomas Jefferson to Danbury Baptists, 1802. ME 16:281

"I am really mortified to be told that, in the United States of America, a fact like this [i.e., the purchase of an apparent geological or astronomical work] can become a subject of inquiry, and of criminal inquiry too, as an offense against religion; that a question about the sale of a book can be carried before the civil magistrate. Is this then our freedom of religion? and are we to have a censor whose imprimatur shall say what books may be sold, and what we may buy? And who is thus to dogmatize religious opinions for our citizens? Whose foot is to be the measure to which ours are all to be cut or stretched? Is a priest to be our inquisitor, or shall a layman, simple as ourselves, set up his reason as the rule for what we are to read, and what we must believe? It is an insult to our citizens to question whether they are rational beings or not, and blasphemy against religion to suppose it cannot stand the test of truth and reason. If [this] book be false in its facts, disprove them; if false in its reasoning, refute it. But, for God's sake, let us freely hear both sides, if we choose." --Thomas Jefferson to N. G. Dufief, 1814. ME 14:127

"History, I believe, furnishes no example of a priest-ridden people maintaining a free civil government. This marks the lowest grade of ignorance of which their civil as well as religious leaders will always avail themselves for their own purposes." --Thomas Jefferson to Alexander von Humboldt, 1813. ME 14:21

"In every country and in every age, the priest has been hostile to liberty. He is always in alliance with the despot, abetting his abuses in return for protection to his own." --Thomas Jefferson to Horatio G. Spafford, 1814. ME 14:119

Amen to that! Bush has usurped the rules of law and ignored the separation of church and state for the purpose of political expediency and financial gain. IMO That is a high crime. The highest crime possible by a President. To subvert the Constitution, the document on which our country was formed and which rules us. Fuck him and the horse he rode on. He damn well should be impeached and sent packing back to Crawford in shame, with his tail between his legs like the fucking corporate bitch he is. I know a lot of people hate me for what I believe, especially when it comes to religion and government, but I'm a fucking patriot and anyone who doesn't think so can kiss my pimply red white and blue ass. (This last sentence isn't directed at you Inagodadavita. I don't know if you are an American transplant or a citizen of Finland, but that's how our government was formed and why I think he should be forced to resign.)

Do you have any comprehension about following a thread?

Do you know how to click on a link and read the article that the OP provided as background and backup to the thread?

Or have you been too busy getting your guns up?[IMG]

For those of you who are left-click challenged, here's some of the article from the New York Times that luvhuffer referred to in the original post:
After a threatened boycott from a conservative religious organization, the Ford Motor Company has said it will cut back on advertising in gay-oriented publications.

The group, the American Family Association, called for the boycott in May because of what it said was the company's "track record for supporting the homosexual agenda."

After a meeting last week between Ford executives and members of the group, the company said that its Jaguar and Land Rover brands would no longer be advertised in gay publications. It said it had no plans to change the advertising strategy for Volvo, another Ford unit.

Now, after reading that, I'm not inclined to think that Ford reduced advertising in gay-oriented publications based on economics. But then, I've always simplistically thought that 1 + 1 = 2.

Somebody please hurry with that chlorine!!

ummm??? I'm reading two guys who both agree that Ford did it for the money arguing with each other about why Ford did it.

You know, I think this is the first time I've seen so many people upset by a reduction in the amount of advertising.

Nice post slutter. More proof that the Christian right has too much damned influence, although I wouldn't be surprised if it had something to do with govt. prodding mixed with some "you don't want to lose al your government contracts would you?" type threats. If that was the case, this wouldn't be the first time.
