i play bass. When ever i play with my sister and dad. they are always telling me how to play. So i end up playing two or three notes in a song. I mean come on
She always chooses what we play. Yeah the bass plays to everyone else, but why cant i choose what kind of music we all play once and awhile. I never thought i would say this but playing bass is not as fun anymore. they ruin it for me

    i know what you mean
just my problem was i kinda manifested that thought all by myself
    so i stopped playin' bass
    but, i really regret that
so just keep playin' it with them
    and keep playin' by yourself
figure out your own stuff, then let them listen
    they'll have to appreciate it
    because bass is awesome
    i.e. Victor Wooten =)

the bass just does not get enough attention. the guitarists seem to be so into their fancy playing they forget there are other people who would like to play too . :(

well i guess you just gotta find people that realize being in a band isn't being about being the best player in the band
it's about the whole group of people uniting they're instruments to make one helluva awesome harmonious sound
    each instrument is vital
and bass is just as good as guitar once you master it
you don't even have to master it
    it's still just as awesome

You said you were only playing a couple notes in songs....that's not good practice!

Form a bass line around the main notes and keep the tempo. It gives you a chance to branch out within a seemingly "boring" bass part. But keep in mind, there's always a time for the bass to chill.

But putting that aside, the bass player doesn't have to be everyone's bitch. Be assertive!

this is what you do...play along with them, playing your measly 2-3 note songs, but on the side practice getting really really really good, without them knowing. and then, when they dont expect it when your playing, turn it up to 11 and bust out some groovy tunes and show them up! perhaps some "weekapaug groove" would fit nicely...i've always loved the bass in that song, mikes great :D
