Well, my mom was looking at sergers for me for Christmas, but the new ones start at like $350! I asked her about used ones, and she said all the people she talked to said that they would have tons of problems with them and weren't even worth buying...

I mean.. Most things you buy used are okay, so why wouldn't a used serger be? Any of you have any experience with a used serger? It all that stuff true? Ahah. I've really got my heart set on one.

Sergers are wonderful. couldnt live with out mine. i bought a used serger. well it was the store modle but it was still used. the lady i bought it from said she used it in the store alot when she did her work there, and for demenstrations durring classes etc. i got it for $600 or so. it works fantastic. havent had any problems yet and i have had it for a little over a year. When you go to buy the used serger find out details on how often it was used, cleaned, and how old, ect. also make sure you get a instruction manuel to tell you how to keep it maintained so it doesnt run into any problems. It might be a good idea to find out how to thread it too, cause threading them can be a pain sometimes. Good luck finding what your looking for!

my folks got me one for my b-day last year, a used one.

They went through a serger/sewing machine repair shop, and it's beyond awsome.

if you're a serious seamstress, i'd invest in a good one that will last a while

To see what a serger does, look at the inside seam of a sweater or t-shirt. See how it has a sewn seam and then the edge is overcast. That's a serger. Typically it sews the seam, overcasts teh edge and cuts off any extra material all in one movement. I have a Simplicity that my DH got me for Yule last year. He bought it new on ebay for under $200. I haven't had a bit of trouble with it and I use it several times a week.

I've been looking on Ebay, but you know, I can never really tell if I should trust an online seller. There have been some good deals. I'm looking for around a $200 price range or so, used. ahah. I am a serious seamstress, and ahah, I want nothing more than a goooood serger that isn't gonna wimp out on me. lol.

    Any other suggestions?
