...to put my band in. This is my old band Marlow. listen to this (gross, myspace! I know...) www.myspace.com/marlowband -or- www.soundclick.com/marlow click on MUSIC then INSOMNIAC. You can dl the song if you love it to pieces, ha. login: gvposse@hotmail.com password:gvposse My mormon friend, the guitarist and singer, is now on his mission and won't be back for 1.5 years, which sucks. Anyways, I'm trying to figure out what genre I should generally choose? And yes, I mess up on the drumming a bit...I wasn't very good at the time. It's just me and my friend that wrote this song, so you can tell me if you like it and what genre you think it would best fit in, that would be totally awesome. Thanks!
That's what I say to the people who ask...but we live in a world with certain common ideas etc....for example I had to choose a genre of music just to put it somewhere on the forum! I guess it's just come up a bunch of times.
i'd say hiphop/country/funk fusion type stuff, but what do i know really. when people ask me i just tell em i make music. thats all it is really... genres are just distractions. sucks about your singer....
listen to some composers if you lost a piece of your puzzle. This will let you know what you can do alone. Steve Reich, Preston Reed, Keller Williams are some people that make ALOT of sound from just one person. Preston Reed plays guitar and taps around the edges of the body to make drum sounds (at the same time this is) and plays crazy shit. But just try and mix genres that you are most comfortable with to create your own genre. Fuck Genre! lol. But your right, you gotta start from somewhere. Just listen listen listen is my advice. sometimes i think i play better guitar after i dont play for a week or so and just listen to new music. But thats me. Peace man
if you wanna see how preston reed plays check out www.kakiking.com you can check out the free videos tab and itll show kaki king playing...but this is how it is done. Peace
Cool, thanks. I'll check that out. Right now I'm in a hardcore punk band, but I'm still making some other music off to the side.
