Do you believe that appearance is the most important thing in the world? What do you think of beauty contests for example?

I feel beauty is truth, seeing the beauty in everything and you are seeing how God sees... even in horrible disgusting things, god sees beauty, with total compassion and a cosmic sense of humor for it is absurd... I strive to realize this way of seeing. For my being and god are one, as all beings are.

There is sexual attractiveness, but I do not think of such things as beauty, I would just call someone that is sexually desirable, attractive... in this sense I see plenty of people I am not attracted to that I don't find attractive... but I don't think that is beauty... that is just lust percieving a person as a sexual object and that is part of being human... yet love can be expressed through our animal nature... and used to transend it as in the case of tantra.

As far as art being beautiful, I wouldn't say it is a proper word for this either... taste is a more proper word. Because one person's beautiful piece of art is another person's garbage as seen in modern art.

So I would say that calling it a beauty contest, is an insult to truth. It should be called by some other name.

Well, a beautiful woman is nice to look at, but if she's an idiot what's the point?

In all seriousness though, if one places their importance on their beautiful or handsome face, they're doomed to sadness in their old age, because all physical beauty withers and dies. Indeed, the same goes for those who place their importance on the things they own, what car they drive, their profession, etc. Even to identify with just being "this body and this mind" is failure, because the body will rot away and the mind will vanish. So what's left, aside from what one might call the soul or spirit?
