any locals what to show a NYer around?

will be in holland for a week around NYE just wondering if any of you local duthc folk want to show me the real amsterdam have been to the city a few times but never really got to see what its really like to live there

I think Koopa was trying to be polite in saying good luck,
although this is an Amsterdam forum, ironically it's fairly
rare, although not completely, that you'll bump into many
that actually live in Amsterdam that frequent here.
Possibly try the Dutch section.?

 

Nem you are great! I can be a bit passive aggressive and you got both of my intentions square on the head. My immediate reaction to the post was the latter of the two but my intention posting was to be polite and truly wish him good luck.

well i am glad u too are so mentally connected, but it doesnt solve my original problem

 

There are two Amsterdam's the tourist one and the local one. They really don't intertwine much at all. Best thing to do is get out of Amsterdam if you want to meet friendly locals and learn a little about the culture. I suggest Haarlem, Beverwijk, or Alkmaar. All are easy to get to by train and everything is within walking distance of the stations. Go and make some new friends.

I suggest the days around NYe you'll stay in amsterdam, but on the night itself you go to ruigoord. It's a squatted village close to amsterdam with great fullmoonparty's and a really nice NYe. Check it at www.ruigoord.nl

If you can get tickets, try the night of the 28th of december in the paradiso. It is a balloonparty and the'll have balloons hanging on the ceiling. If enough helium get's out, they'll drop down and people will jump up to grap it. there will be bags with surprises attached to it, including things like mushrooms, joints etc. It's fun, and everybody will be dressen up,
