that believes all is one? i know pantheism is similar, believing all is God, but what if you simply believe in the interconnectedness of everything?
monism? that's the opposite to dualism. Pantheism is a type of monism, though I really don't understand the difference. Like, what other kind of monism is there other than pantheism?
well i could say i believe everything is one, or i could add to that and say all are one and this "One" is god. although i don't really see the purpose in defining whether or not the One is god because it would be all that exists. as for any other kind of monism, i guess the belief in gods that are all just parts of the one god might count, like hinduism. but anyways, thank you for your answer, i do believe thats what i was looking for.
Yeah, I agree. You're thinking of monism. It's not so much a theory of God as it is a theory of reality in general. It goes back to the age old question of "the one and the many" Is realiy one connected whole or substance, and is all change simply an illusion, or is everything in a constent state of change--"You can't step in the same river twice."
Jatom, I'd say it's both. The whole is a single connected "thing" but it is dynamic. You may not be able to step in the same river twice, but the river is still there, eh? Imperfect analogy but you get the drift, I hope.
I'd just call it pantheism. I am a pantheist myself. Here's my reasoning: If absolutely ALL is one, then there is no distinction between one and God. It's just a label. You could say all is God, or all is one, but it really doesn't matter because it's ALL. It's EVERYTHING. It doesn't matter what you call it or how you conceptualize it.
Hey Jatom! It has been a while ... welcome back to the forums (or were you just hanging out on other boards?)!
i think what you were thinking of might be what is called solopsism. hienline's strainger in a strainge land explores the concept somewhat (along with a lot of other things) as does something i read once by vonnigut that i can't remember the name of.
Yeah I'd say Bhaskar is right on you dont need to know what to call it.. its who you are.. its the truth.. spirituality, if you will... religion per se is completely different.. more of the 'officialized and mechanized' manifestation of true spirituality... you can apply 'all is one' understanding to every religion..albeit youll have to shove some things under the table occassionally, or ignore others questions..realizing that its all apart of the big one.... mm..
