walking life.... now thats a trippy movie that makes you think. I jusst got it and im tryin hard to understand all what there sayin i got to watch it a few more times to understand.... but its a good movie creative the way they made it. they took real people that they made into a cartoon.
I LOVE "Waking Life".... such an interesting concept of a movie and I can't wait to get it for the third time this christmas.. one of my faves
Richard Linklater (the director of Waking Life) is coming out with a new film, titled A SCANNER DARKLY in the same style animation as Waking Life. Looks pretty cool, if you liked WLife.
great movie. saw it in a philosophy class for the first time. now I own it. my favorite theory discussed in the movie is the evolutionary paradigm. I also liked the discussion about how language came about and how really it has slowed down the evolutionary process.
it's an animated film; not a cartoon. you guys should check out more of richard linklater's films... especially subURbia...
subUrbia is my favourite movie of all time. I LOVE that film. I also love Waking Life (got for christmas) and, for what it's worth in this context, Dazed and Confused (also directed by Linklater). The first time I saw Waking Life, I was tweaking out on mushrooms. This was on Halloween. I've never been so blown away, in my life. That's why I love this movie so much, it's just so compelling. And, when you're in a state of mind that opens you up, and allows you to see so much more in the world, a movie like this can easily blow your mind. It's amazing.
hehe, it's okay... i just think the way you presented your opinion was kinda wrong. you make out like it's WANKING life instead of waking life. i mean, it's not really that bad is it? look at it this way; if it made you question any of your beliefs, it was worth the watch, and at least met its purpose. and if it gave you a new perspective to use, than it deserves alot more credit than any recycled hollywood movie. does every piece of art have to evolve humanity? i mean, i dunno, i just think this film has some great ideas in it, and presents you with an atmosphere where you can really question things. the thing i think though, is that you have to "give in" to that atmosphere. you just can't be guarded or single-minded etc when it comes to art... you just have to experience art with as pure a mindset that you can get. you have to be open to new things, and you have to be willing to "analyse and interpret" things that you don't understand. and if you only question the things that you can relate to, where do you think you're going to end up spiritually? you have to remove the ego so that you give the art a chance to communicate to your spirit. you have to look at art without bias, so that you're outside of yourself (and perhaps inside of someone else) and can then experience different realities. you have to realise that there's hell mystery in the world, that there's many ways to look at everything, and that life "outside of the box" is alot more real than life inside of the box. you have to be willing to gain new interests, and compare you experiences with anything you don't understand. and you have to have faith that your tastes can still be upgraded... awesome man. it's always good to see another person that understands and loves suburbia. and the main thing that makes waking life so good is the contradictions i think. as in there's all of the ideas that contradict eachother, but they're all good! it shows that ideas are just (if not more so) important than beliefs.
Yeah, I've loved subUrbia for years. And it's funny, because every single person I showed that movie to, loved it right away. It's great. And yes, I know what you mean about the contradiction in Waking Life. It added more dimension to the film I think, than if they had only shown and discussed one congruent thought, you know?
awesome... pretty much the same case with me. ha ha, like what? i just think that's another thing which adds to its value.
Ok, i'll have to watch it again. I guess the main problem the first time is i thought it didn't really expand my mind at all, IT tried and failed.
well it does need to be watched more than once imo. maybe you just didn't have the right mindset for it at the time? did you comprehend much of it? i recall that i didn't when i first saw it. that's probably why i like it more now... because i fully understand it more.
when i first saw it i was with my mate who has an iq of 156 or something but is about as open minded as a pea.
