I'm just wondering what stance christians take on this: the ancient holy books of India are a couple thousand years older then the christian bible and christ himself. A lot of christians are laying the claims to their faith on the bible's accuracy in predicting things that have come true. The Veda's are a set of Hindu holy books that has predicted Jesus Christ and he is loved and respected as an incarnation of God. So how do christians (or atleast the christian viewers of this) feel about that?
I spoke with a Hindu about this a few months ago, asking how he understood Jesus Christ. A follower of Krishna, he said that there are no prophecies of Jesus Christ in Hindu Scriptures.
Yeah, I was going to ask for link earlier this morning, but had to leave. So, a source link? But I'll have to agree with Molly's post...I was unaware of any from when I was into ISKCON [through the eyes of sort of a Bahai philosophy] and am still unaware if there are any as a follower of Jesus.
In Chapter 18 of the SAMA VEDA, it states... We worship the one born of the virgin We worship the one nailed to the wood. We worship the one who moved over water We worship the one with five wounds. We worship the one seated at the bosom of the Father In RIG-VEDA, it talks about a crown of reeds would be put on the head of the Son of God. He read in Mathew 27: 29, “ They made a crown of thorns and pressed it on Jesus’ head”. reeds, throwns, assuming this is a correct translation, wow is all I can say... points to all the religions being one. I found this in one minute exactly... so I can't vouch for its accuracy, hehehe... I will do more research when I have the time... This is the first time I heard that the Vedas predicted Christ... wow, it's pretty far out.
just because ISKCON says it...doesn't mean you can lump some Hinduism into it...Hinduism has many schools...
i believe that jesus is the son of God, but i don't really believe in the bible, as it is man written, not written by God, but by man and certainly not by women. i don't call myself a christian, but i am a believer in many beliefs. i have adopted the native american spirituality. they believe in replenishing the earth, not destroying it. loving all creatures great and small, worshiping the sun and earth and not having to worship their higher power in a man made church. to me my church is the great outdoors that is where my god is. angel
now if we could only get a christian...they seem to avoid subjects that may contradict their faith...oh well
Acctually, I just was asking for a link to a source that could back up your claim [Ganja's was ok, but I would still like a link so I can see for myself]. Molly had also responded... Aren't there scholars out there who believe that the life of Jesus and Krishna mirror each other? http://www.religioustolerance.org/chr_jckr1.htm I cannot account for the exact correctness of the site, but I have trusted it in the past, so I will try and trust it agian. So couldn't those easily be about Krishna? BTW- Just so you know, I am a Christian. I thought my sig was kinda obvious, but then again, I did change it only recently...whatever, but yeah
you're clearly an openminded christian...and from my understanding of what it takes to be a christian these days you can't love jesus and krishna or buddha at the same level
Who says I do? I used to (although I don't think I was really serious in my beliefs), but I now think that that was just a facade I created for myself to be different and rebel or something to that effect.
Yes, these prophets all seem to go out in the desert, metaphorically or not. Much of Christs message is the same as Buddhas just different words. And yes, I have seen the image of Jesus in other religions over and over...I was a follower of Hinduism and still practice Buddhism to a degree b/c it is that good for you; some of the basics. The question you ask I wouldn't run from and the truth is I have no clue or answer for that. Im not a total fool but I don't possess that knowledge nor can I explain it. Maybe some it does make afraid and shakes their faith but really it just makes it all the more interesting if you have no fear I remember a "Jesu" or something like that in Hindu lit but am suffering short term memory loss right now. lol thing is there is no way God doesn't want us to use our minds, that makes no sense to me. Thats why we as Christians shouldn't get too hung up on the words, face it..language isn't that effect and no two people can see even one thing the same, so God? Love and The Spirit need to be there first am i even on topic anymore or just baked and preaching at everyones expense? lol God bless peace
See people, there are lots of literalists and fundementalists out there but this type of attitude is actually pretty common among christians... It is just these so called "liberal" christains are not as outspoken as the others. A few years ago, I met this catholic that was turning on her chuch to Tibetan meditation techniques... next thing you know they'll be singing, all we are saying is give peace a chance... hehehe It's happening, people we are coming together! Thank god for christains like this, with some sense! Praise be the Christ Heart and the Buddha Mind.
Dionysys was nailed on a cross, Mithra was born to a virgin, Moses moved water, so how does it automatically mean Jesus? And for the record, there are many fathers with many bosoms for which to sit. And for the majority of the religions lumped into "Hinduism", the many gods are facets of the One, Jesus would be no more special than Ganesha.
Well, scripture points out that the world would not endure sound doctrine, and it also states that many would turn from the Creator, and begin to worship the creation. Also, if the Bible was not true, why are the Jews back in Israel, and Jerusalem? Why is Jerusalems East Gate still sealed? The BIBLE TELLS YOU THIS IS A SIGN THAT THE END OF TIME IS NEAR. And why would you believe in Jesus, but not the Bible? For we know of Jesus, only because of the Bible.
