I also agree that "Animals" was the most progressive rock album they did, however I would also label alll their other 70's albums progressive. All their 70's albums have the influence of classic music.
Listen to The Lamb Dies Down On Broadway. But you like Toto, hence you know nothing about music and I'm not too worried about your opinions.
wrong. they were more influenced by jazz than classical........ mostly sun ra was a huge inspiration for the group. please do research on the group before you make generalizations.
Yes Is The Ultimate Band Of All Time, But Believe You Me They Were Never As "heavy" As Genesis Was On The Lamb. I Mean That Is Just A Well Known Fact
Dude, you totaly forgot Emerson,Lake, and Palmer...Sure YES and Floyd are noteable choices. Electric Light Orchestra has some decent albums here and there. King Crimson is also one I think you should've put in.And of course where are you not to put in RUSH.
I think one of the most underrated Prog Rock bands happen to Tangerine Dream and Hawkwind.Alot of their early stuff is pure Prog Rock.Amazing stuff too. Oh Well...your poll dude.
Well Animals isn't very progressive either. 'Dogs' & 'Sheep' are the closest they've ever gotten because they are the real focus pieces of the album, but 'Pigs' is just long because of the middle and end jam sections.
I'm glad at least a few of you folks mentioned ELP. They were the ones to actually get me to pick up a pair of drumsticks and make a career out of music. As a result of becoming something of an ELP "scholar", I discovered The Nice, King Crimson, and Atomic Rooster...all of them were also pretty prog in their day, although early Nice was a lot more psych than prog. I'm a bit surprised that no one mentioned Triumvirat. I agree that a lot of their stuff was shamless, blatant copying of ELP, but not all of it. Early stuff like Illusions on a Double Dimple and Old Loves Die Hard was very ELP'ish, but by the time they released Sparticus, they had finally found their own sound. Jurgen Fritz also added an electronic instrument that Keith never used- the ARP String Ensemble and that alone set his sound sufficiently apart from Keith's to make them unique. I also liked Patrick Moraz in Refugee- Patrick with the bassist/vocalist and drummer from Keith's old band The Nice..cool stuff. Great thread everyone. Keep it up! Tom in Florida
