Hello everybody, I started a vegan diet about a month ago and I have noticed that I haven't been sleeping well. As a matter of fact I have not fallen asleep before 6am once in the past 2 weeks. Could this be associated with my change of diet? Thanks
ive never heard of that sorry. My sleeping patterns have always been a bit dodgy but thats from me staying on computer all hours of the night, not cause of vegan diet. Do you have other things going on in your life that are stressfull or could cause the poor sleep? stress will do it easily. Have u started drinking or eating stuff that keeps you awake, like coffee, diet coke or something? congrats on the going vegan btw!
It could possibly have something to do with it... but I don't know for sure. The only reason I think that is because being vegan takes a lot less energy away from your digestive process and puts more back into your life thus allowing you to still function and re-energize after you've eaten instead of wanting to go into a food coma. Your body is just adjusting to it's new reality I think. Are you going to bed hungry? When I do that I usually sleep fitfully cuz my bodie's pissed about being hungry. As a vegan you must eat a lot more than omnis or even lacto-ovo vegheads. I'm not saying to stuff yourself right before bed, I just think having a later dinner might help you. I'd be interested to see if that's the case. Keep us posted.
Clawsy, Thanks for the support. I don't think my life has become any more stressful then it ever was. I think I'm going to try one of those herbal teas for sleep if the situation does not remedy itself. Shutterfly, What you said makes a lot of sence. Before I became vegan I ate so much crap,I used to eat a lot of turkey and I know that has something in it that makes you sleepy,I usually fell into "food coma" rather then going to bed for sleep. I think the solution could now be changing my nighttime routine to hopefully get myself on a schedual.But I think that is going to be harder then anything else,Wish me luck.
There's also the possibility that you simply don't need that much sleep. How much exercise are you getting?
