yeah i know, i do understand, i was sooo surprised to read something that fits with the stereotype so well. ( every word was "raising-an-eyebrow" moment) it's funny, before i came here i didn't believe in what people say about americans mentality, i couldn't believe they can actually be so black-and- white or even Blind at some subjects. and i have to say i'm very surprised
If the images are fake then it's difficult to see where the crime is. Is the material inherantly harmful? That's as difficult to prove as the alledged "effects" of violent videogames, and questions like this inevitably come down to mere opinion - certainly nothing you could sensibly use as grounds for legislation. I'm suprised nobody has ever really adressed the current of pardophilia that occasionally rears its head in popular culture. Consider the band T.a.T.u - the short-lived "lesbian" "schoolgirl" duo. And Britney Spears' video for "Hit Me Baby One More Time" (I think). Could it be the media is fostering the very thing it rallies against? If you've ever had the misfortune to read an artical about a paedo crime - the journalists reveal every little thing in meticulous detail, you'd be forgiven for thinking they're revelling in it. I've often thought when watching war coverage that the same contradiction is occuring - the media is at once educational, or hides behind a pretense of morality, while being fundamentally voyeuristic in exactly the same way a mainstream action movie is.
I have not looked into the Waco incident so I will not comment. However, there seems to be a number of sources available that blame the government. I write this during a time were the American government is trying to continue a law that will allow it to monitor what library books that I choose to read or what books I buy from internet bookshops. That has a bearing on the subject of this thread. The books that were sited as giving the "true" story of Waco. People should probably not be allowed to read those books. They might read them and then set up their own off brand religious communities. Best we get rid of them along with the kiddy porn don't you think?
I think the bottom line is that if it were my child that had pictures taken in a offensive sexual manner - I would really hurt someone, so why allow any child to be represented in that way. As to being able to view images without there being any repercussions, I think is a bunch of crap to all of you that seem to think it would keep a sicko at bay. I personally think that it is okay to watch porno where there are only adults taking part, and that it is concentual. With children you cannot even say they have the capacity to know what is right or wrong, they are led down those paths by perverts. To those of you that are so worried about freedom of rights, why be so concerned if in fact you are not in the same boat as the pedo's that are out there? If in fact you are not one why would you worry over those issues. If you happen to have children some day and are not a freak, think about it in that light and what that would do to you to know that someone had used you child in some sick game......... Ummm no. There is no justification for not allowing nature to take it's natural course and allowing children to be children and grow into their own sexuality naturally, without force. I happened to have issues that happened to me as a child, and it took a long time to see men as human beings versus no good f@cking machines. That took one good relationship for me to see in a different light, but the past and old feelings still haunt you regardless. I think it should all be banned - You know you have people that sell dope and get out of prison sometimes after 10 years served. You have a sick person out there that can take a a infant to ???? age child and stick a penis inside of them that is about 1/ 2 to 1/4 of their body size and they get out in 3 years for good behavior...........They should be locked up for good - They cannot be cured. It is a sickness. They get out and do it again, and again, and again. It's people that make comments like " Oh child porno's not so bad, if they are not doing anything with it", but how do you know whether or not they are or aren't? Who want's their childs image altered and posted, or worse yet an actual picture. I have to say that there is NO WAY IN HELL that it is okay in any way shape of form.......regardless of rights - What about their right to a natural progression????????????????????????????????????? What about the wholesome childhood that is stolen from them? Sick and wrong - To all you sooo worried about freedom and rights......You bet.
how do we know what they will do with it? good point, theres no way we can tell what anyone will use anything for, should we then assume the worst and ban it or lock someone up. Guns are legally for sale all over the world, sold on the pretense of self defense, but how do we know how someone is going to use a gun? what about axes, they can kill too, and condoms, how do we know someone who buys a condom isnt buying it so they can have sex with someone under age, or a prostitute...after all if someone needs to be worried about an std they're not having sex with their legally wed partner and so its a moral crime anyways. if someone takes your childs image and alters it for the purpose of fake child porn its illegal anyways from copyrigth laws, you own the image of your child and they're using it so its not like that would be legal. so what about nudists taking picture of their kids, how do we know how they're going to use the pictures? you don't. you never will, thats the thing about rights, you can't take them away on the 'what if' basis, you need solids, concretes. you can't legislate morality, you can only legislate it based on its negative consequences to others. it shouldnt be illegal for me to masturbate thinking about raping the queen, it shouldnt be illegal for me to draw pictures of raping the queen, the only thing that should be illegal is raping the queen because thats the only thing that will have negative reprocussions towards another person. to very loosely quote a former prime minister 'the government does not belong in the bedrooms of the nation'
I think that if you are a person that is having a fantasy about committing some act of crime, based on the law. Then it is something that you and only you know about. It is not public knowledge. Like anything that happens to be a personal thought, unless shared it is you info. We can argue all day long about guns and how people are killed, drugs and how they get in, alcohol and what it does to heavy users, tobacco etc.........but we are speaking of children. A child can get a hold of a can of beer and maybe get somewhat sick. A child can get a hold of a gun and get shot or killed, problem, a child can get a hold of drugs and OD, another problem and so on. As for validating whether or not child porno is okay. I don't care what argument you pit it against. I personally do not agree and if it came down to losing some of my rights as a free person, I would do so becuase I do believe that strongly in the fact that it is not something that should be tolerated. There are hordes of problems in a capitalist country, but the fact remains the childrens rights are always at the bottom and it's people who are overly concerned with all the rights that they need and that they would hate to wave that cause childrens rights to be bottom on the rung, because lord knows you address this with full force and the whole world might get turned upside down, is that the logic? If we had capital punishment for these crimes don't you think that would limit that amount of child porno and rape that goes on in this country, and then all those thoughts and fantasies that are probably in every 5th home in the US, would be just that a thought, not a reality. I cannot state for a fact that porno will lead everyone to commit a crime, but you cannot say that it would not be a catalyst. If in fact it is a catalyst in one, just one child being hurt. Then I think it is wrong. You can tell whether or not a child being photographed in the nude is just cute or explicit...........You can tell. As to drawing pictures, those types of things do not involve real images and I don't think anyone would be prosecuted on that alone, and or some thought they had. It is the action of manipulation, violence, rape, assault, taking of ones rights to a happy childhood, strong arming the weak.........etc. that is the crime. Further more, masturbating to images played out in your own private imagination, as stated are just that...........an imagined fantasy. When put into action of any sort that includes any of the items listed above........Problem. Two Accused Child Molesters—Captured! Oprah on Friday Secrets and Lies "I have one intention behind this show," Oprah says, "and that is that somebody of the millions of you who watch will see something that snaps you into reality. … Child molesters are in your neighborhoods, your schools, your churches, and, as you'll see today, maybe even sleeping in your bed." When Leanna graduated from high school, she was a single mother looking for love and security. She fell in love with a man named James Perry. They married and had a baby girl together. Life seemed good. "He was an awesome dad," Leanna says. But as years passed, the marriage became rocky. James was often out of the house and Leanna suspected that he was having an affair. When he was at home, he was locked in a room with his computer. "Now that I look back, he always made time for the kids," Leanna says. "It was a good thing until you find out why." Then one night, after eight years of marriage, Leanna awoke to the shock of her life. Seventeen FBI officers arrived to search the house and arrest her husband. James had videotaped himself having sex with an 8-year-old girl and sold it on the Internet. Here's what police told her about the man she loved: James Perry was a notorious sexual predator who for years eluded the Wisconsin police. When the FBI finally found their man, he was an ordinary father of two who was leading an incomprehensible double life. He confessed to 40 sexual assaults on children, and he was given a sentence of 375 years in prison—the longest in Wisconsin's history. When Leanna asked authorities "How bad is he?" their answer shocked her. "[They said] it's the worst they'd ever seen." Officers told Leanna that James had a collection of lingerie in children's sizes. "I thought they had the wrong person, wrong house," Leanna says.... ................ After two failed marriages, Jody wanted to make a new life for herself and her two daughters. "I moved a thousand miles away for a fresh start," she says. "I just bought a home. I was raising two beautiful children, and I was happy. I met a man named Georgie and I just totally fell in love with him. I felt that God had sent him to me, that he was my soul mate." Then Jody's 3-year-old daughter told her about a special game she played with Georgie. "She had these stuffed animals. She said that Georgie was daddy bear and that she was the mommy bear and that they had two baby bears. She said that 'We lay on them.' I said, 'Well, what did you do besides lay on the bear?' And she said, 'Daddy would touch me.' "There was no way possible that I would think or could imagine that he would be capable of that. I took it to him the next day and confronted him about it. He convinced me that she was mistaken. And I believed him." One week later, Jody claims to have witnessed the horrible truth. "I open the [bedroom] door and I just couldn't believe what I saw," she says. "I walked in and [saw] Georgie in my thong underwear masturbating on the bed, watching [a pornographic film] with my baby next to him, naked." Jody says that she grabbed her daughter and ran out of the house. "He was yelling at me," Jody remembers, "telling me that I better not tell anybody, that nobody would believe me. That he would kill me. … The first thing I [saw] was a tent that the kids had been camping in over the weekend, and I went and put her in the tent. And I told her to stay there until I came back for her." Jody then went back inside, got a gun and returned to the bedroom. "I went back there to get answers and to ask him, 'How could you do this to our baby?' And he just started laughing at me. … Then he came after me." Jody then shot him dead. Jody was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. The jury's verdict? Not guilty. ..... Marilyn admits staying married to her husband after she found out he molested her two sons. Oprah: Do you take offense at me saying you chose the molester [over your children]? Marilyn: Yes. I know that my choices—a lot of people will question them, but they weren't in my shoes. Oprah: I want you to explain it because we have no right to judge you—you're right—because we're not in your shoes. But as I said earlier, the only reason I'm doing this show is for all the woman who are in your shoes—who are there, who choose to believe when their spouses, their boyfriends, their mates, their husbands, the father of their children, the stepfather to their children—when they see the signs or have found out that their children are being molested, and they stay in the relationship because they believe that the molester can be cured. Six months after marrying her husband, Marilyn began to suspect that something wasn't right between her sons and their stepfather. "I prayed," she says, "and I really feel like God told me what was happening in my home. And I confronted my husband and he confessed to it. I then called the police, called child services. Detectives came and interviewed the children. When they questioned them—since they had been molested when they were sleeping—they had no knowledge that they had been molested. … At the time, Luis was 5. Roy was 7." Marilyn says she stayed in the marriage because her husband agreed to enter a sex offender program. "That was his thing," she says, "'I need help. I can't control myself.' … I decided, well, I'm just going to have to keep an eagle eye on him while he's in treatment to see whether this is really going to work. So [at the time] I'm six months pregnant, and at night I would sleep on the floor of our bedroom right in front of the door to make sure he wouldn't get out." Marilyn continued to live as the "house police" for seven years. "Unbeknownst to me," she says, "he began abusing Luis. He raped my son." Although Luis kept his stepfather's dirty secret, his behavior suggested that something was wrong. "He gained weight," Marilyn remembers. "He started doing badly in school. He was having a lot of stomach pains. … I asked him, 'Luis, is your [stepdad] touching your privates? Is he touching your penis? Your behind? Is he doing anything to make you feel uncomfortable? Bad?' And he denied it." Marilyn also confronted her husband, who also denied the abuse. It wasn't until one night when Marilyn discovered Luis in his room sobbing uncontrollably that the truth came out. "We just sat there on the bed," Marilyn remembers tearfully, "and cried together." Now in his 20s, Luis says he was molested on a daily basis. Why did Luis not tell his mother? "I don't know," Luis says. "Maybe I was, you know, looking beyond just myself. … I was trying to protect our family. I wasn't dumb when I was that age. I knew how it was, living when it was just my brother and I, being so poor. And then [my stepfather] came into our lives and we had a big home and food on the table. We had this and we had that. I was like, 'If I tell, what's my mom going to do with three kids and no job?'" "
