agreed. i enjoy their live albums/shows so much more than their studio efforts. some are ok but i dunno they seem to lack the raw energy. (how cliche of me to say lol )
weak. But I thought that about Outside inside and Untying the Knot. Wheel had so much more passion and spontenaiety
I love live String Cheese Incident, but I agree that their studio stuff isn't very impressive. However, the song "One Step Closer" is awesome.
For real. SCI is a jam band and the songs on that album are like only 3 minutes long. The only studio album they ever put out that I liked was Outside Inside. Songs like Rollover, Joyful Sound, the one where he's like "The CLoud's drift through his mind, as he walks by", the bluegrassy one are all really great songs, you know. The ONLY other studio cut that I ever liked was "The Light Parade" (off a different album, I think that's the name of the song, it goes " Marchin down to city hall, we join the light parade"), with the real groovy tripped out dark guitar and keyboard playing behind the singing.
Born on the Wrong Planet was a good release: it captured where the pre Kyle (although he is a guest on it) band was at that time. the next was live, A string Cheese Incident: and a nice concise san Jose. Wheel captured the energy (again of the band they were)
I'm going to have to disagree with popular opinion on this one. I think One Step Closer is one of thier far more decent studio albums. Obviosly nothing is going to compare to thier live stuff which is what they do best. But as far as the direction this album went in, I think it was a pretty bold move and a good listen.
i can't remember the name of the song, but i saw it on their DVD release. It was all of them sitting on a couch or just kinda hanging around. nurshie was playing acousitc and i think kang was playing a slide guitar and they were all harmonizing and it was gorgeous....i think its called "compromise"....
One Step Closer is supposed to be different from anything they have done. if you got the cd, idk if they all come with the dvd, but watch the dvd... and they tell you that lol. or get the dvd the big compromise. its about the making of the album, and that should state why it doesnt sound like any of their live stuff or albums before. this album isnt really all about the jams, or riffs, what i got from it is its about the meaning of what they are saying i guess. its a good album. i love it. I dont think just because the songs are only 4 min. doesnt mean its not good. peace~
huh. I'll track that down, Forest. If it's about songwriting AND decent music paired, I'll give it another shot.
what i don't understand is why people automatically assume the live show will change, because their album sound has changed....bands write new kinds of music, it doesn't mean, especially in the jam-band world, that they will stop playing old tunes. they jsut want to fill their creative void, that they are experiencing right now. just dig what you dig, and go jam out on the show....
