George Bush admitted to breaking federal policy and spying on all Americans. It's an impeachable offense.(Not like he would ever get impeached). I simply cannot believe this man has been elected twice in a row!
if it wasnt that asshole in power, it would be some other asshole very rarely is it that someone who deserves power is seeking it out
Tappings phonelines. Reading e-mails. etc. That's a horribly pessimistic way to look at things Mr.Gooey. I mean, you could easily say the same thing for a murderer. The dude he killed was going to die eventually right, so what's the big deal?
yes, he would. and then id be TRULY scared. in any case... any idiot knew what the patriot act meant long ago. so none of this on the news and all was a surprize at all. plus, bush did not admit that he stepped out of the constitution (which he did)... he claims he is and was in the lines of the law so who knows? people stay blind and elect idiots.... then they shouldnt be surprized when shit goes down.
Spying on Americans is not an impeachable offense. He also never admitted to breaking a law (which he might have) or breaking protocol, (which he probably did) and certainly never admitted to spying on 'All Americans.' The white house has made the point that he's authorized those powers under article two of the constitution, which is true. If a person is suspected of war time crimes, then the president can authorise investigations on war charges of espionage, subversion, and preperation for an attack, and communicating with rouge cells, which is different from laws applied to any sort of civil or ciminal case. So it looks like the White Houses argument holds up. On the other hand, this is strongly aginst protocol, the President is already in the position to open investigations into criminal cells withou a court order and for up to 72 hours before brining it before a secret judicial panel, under the provisions of FISA which passed in the 70's after it came out that the government had used the FBI to investigate political figures, such as Martin Luther King. This doesn't mean the trial is secret, just the warrant. And while Bush might have not exactly broken the law, he has broken with procedure meant to keep executive power in check, and this will undoubtedly bring a judicial hearing. Not much is none about the actual investigations, and none will come out, but it loooks like this has only been applied to a handful of people. None the less, I hope the judicial hearing will be pretty damning, and this may lead to an Amendment of FISA making it a crime for a president to authorise secret investigations without FISA approval. The Bush administration has a point that no law was broken, but they're going to have a hard time convincing Congress that the FISA courts we're insufficient for intellegence purposes.
