I am totally on board for the new movie from Ang Lee "Brokeback Mountain". Comes on 12/9. It stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger in as Mr. Ledger puts it, "a new twist on hollywood's tired love story". Its based on a short by Annie Polux first read in the New Yorker. All I know is that that movie looks damn good and I can't wait to see it. Just a new note too, I've read the story and ....wow. I wish I could find love like that only not have to hide it due to society's pressures. Enjoy the updated link to Brokeback Mountain http://www.brokebackmountainmovie.com/home.html p.s. the music is pretty cool too (even if some of it is country)
I'm looking forward to finding out if Heath Ledger can actually act. Brokeback Mountain looks like a really good, possibly even important, film. Unfortunately, it will probably make about 157 dollars in the US.
Ah, yeah... Not concerned at all about how much it made (though Focus Features has already broke even with just the international distribution rights). Attention to the tone of the story with appropriately liberties is all I'm seeking; the problem more often than not about novels to film stories. As for acting, don't know much about either of them. Just the clip of the "goodbye" scene I saw makes me think I'm in for some good stuff.
i think both are good actors under the right circumstances. heath ledger isn't the greatest at choosing films in my opinion, but he does well nonetheless. and jake gyllenhaal (sp?) is pretty talented. and he seems to have a pretty good track record at choosing roles.
Sometimes being a bitch is the only thing a woman has left to hang onto." --Stephen King, Dolores Claiborne a friend of mine who is a therapist says that bitch means: "being in total control of herself,'' i like that meaning. it always amazed me that we as women are never supposed to assert ourselves, if we do we are bitches. angel
My daughter is really excited about this movie, so we'll probably see it together. Must say it's nice to have a movie about real people, get tired of special effects and blowing things up. Watched the dvd of Far from Heaven, excellent, but I doubt it was big box-office, such a shame these movies don't get full recognition.
I have been waiting since september to see this.. I think I'm going with a friend to the independent movie theatre next weekend.
I'm looking forward to seeing it. It will go down in history as the first western where the good guy gets it in the end Alex
Haha I saw that! But I think the Leger/Gyllenhall combo will be way hotter. I've been following this movie for months. Can't wait to see it.
same here. I first heard about it in September. Unforunately it doesn't come out till January around here.
When it comes out depends on where you live. It's already out in some larger cities, and it's going to expand to more theaters in the middle of January. I hope to see it in Cleveland after it opens there next month. If not, I'll have to wait for it to come to my little conservative town. If I'm not mistaken, Oscar nominations come out in late January. If Brokeback Mountain gets enough nominations, there will be even more interest in this movie and it is more likely to come to the smaller towns then.
I just saw it Wednesday afternoon at the Uptown Theatre in Minneapolis. WOW. It was great. It was so freakin' sad. It really makes you think even harder about how unfair life is for some people. How judgemental the world is and how they actually make people surpress themselves just to avoid being mocked, harrassed, or worse. Really got to me. As soon as you get the chance, go see it.
Did anyone perchance see the skit on "The Soup" called "Brokeback Kong"? Funny as hell. I definitely want to see this. Looks very good.
Ditto. It's like...you know how people get all emotional over Romeo and Juliet and like...how people struggle with relationships because of race or religion or family name. Well this movie is the same theme only it's an issue that is even more present than all of those other situations combined. Yes, people still get ridiculed for relationships with people of other races, but it's even worse for homosexual people right now. Even though the movie was based in the 60s and 70s, you can still relate it to the present day quite a bit. Not only that, but this movie portrays it in such a powerful way, much more powerfully than any movie I've seen about related issues.
