This is an old one of mine, from a few years ago. I'm posting it in honor of the winter solstice which occurs today/tonight. Winter Solstice To deepest black we run this night With winter setting in The frigid night engulfs my world Though I commit no sin But soon the dawn will come again To warm my freezing soul The inky dark will not so last As fire is brought from coal For from despair comes gleam of hope And light shall surely grow While in this time of deepest death Comes birth so soft aglow Yet slowly now it shall gain speed And all will feel its draw This blazing orb of purest light Our hearts exult in awe So rise up now and dance your joy Though cold it be outside Sun returns in blazing glory My arms are open wide
you really caught the essence of how lovely this time of year is...every day is a little better than the one before...thanks for writing such a great poem.
