I'm sure someone has already brought up this topic, but anyways.

Are looks really important in being a hippy? I mean, if you see a girl walking down the street dressed in the typical clothes of today's 'stuck up teenagers' and basically looking and walking like one too would you imediatly classify her as someone who could never be a hippy?
Is being a hippy acting and thinking like one on the inside regardless of your ouside looks, or does it concern every part of you, inside and out??

oh, and by the way..what is egg nog????

LOL, don't get caught up in labels...it just segregates us further. Think about it: It doesn't really matter at all. People are people.

And egg nog is a thick, sweet, and creamy drink that contains egg yolks.

I don't know labels are made by society and the media. In truth we are just human beings so would it really matter?

With anybody though their ideals determine who they are not their cloths and outside appearance imo.Like someone could wair thug cloths but still be a peacemaker maybe he just likes that style of clothing ya know?

    <cynisism>

when people started really accepting and using the word "hippy", to classify the anti-establishment "movement" of the 60's, it all died.

:) but "hippy" as a trend is alive and well. yes, it all depends on how you look.

i guess you would say that i dress like a hippie but i don't think that's what makes me one. i think being a hippie is a state of mind!

too many people just look at someone and automatically classify them. like, i dont walk around in enormous beads and my peace sign necklace all the time, but according to the mindset of most people my age, that only makes me a hippy some of the time. i just find it completely stupid.

You miss the BIG question: what is eggnog? It is something the Pennsylvania Dutch (and others) make at Christmas. It is milk, sugar and eggs, and it is extremely rich. But, GOOT! We Pennsylvanian rednecks improve upon it, though. We take a half-gallon of eggnog, pour into another container about one-third of it, and fill the eggnog with 120 proof moonshine. (Yes, we still make it.)

Then you have a drink which puts the Christmas tree in peril, not to speak of virgins and sheep-killing dogs.

    Merry Christmas!

Yea, I also think being a hippie is about the state of mind... altering your consciousness to new boundaries. (so in other words. drugs, but there is also MEDITATION!!!)... but those who alter their minds and meditate or take drugs are most likely going to look like hippies. why... I honestly dont know lol

I like dressing the way I feel. I feel colorful and flowy and pretty and artistic. I don't feel like wearing sweatshop clothes. I'd rather wear clothes my friends made.

i make all of my own clothing an it has everything to do with my personality... nothing to do with labels or what i want people to think of me, who cares. be comfortable being urself and stop thinking about it, its not the "state of mind" so much as the morals, values and personal beliefs u hold.

This label business is why so many boundaries are created between people. It's what distances us from each other.

Do I dress like a "hippie?" No. Not at all.

Do I do drugs? Well, I'm trying to stop for various reasons.

Do I support the principles that hippies purport? Of course!

Well, I don't think that we way you dress determines who you are, that having been said, SoMETHIMES who you are does determine the way you dress! I think that often times your internal factors like politics, spirituality, and the like will flow outwardly, but not all the time.
Do I consider myself a hippie? I don't reject the label, but seldom use it for myself, because it makes me feel conceited to label my own self.
Do I dress like a hippie? Yeah! I wear tie-dye, bell dottoms, peace symbols, barefoot/flipflops, army jacket with peace buttons and patches, longer hair (not really long YET, but I haven't cut if for several months) etc.

But I don't think that just because someone does, or does NOT dress like this, it makes them any more or less of a hippie. However, it seems that politics are reflected in clothes in the fact that a hippie will most likely not wear clothing made IN a sweatshop. Also, Hippies tend not to care what people think so they will most likely not dress a certain way to be popular of fit in... But if they dress that way just because they like it, hey, they are doing there own thing and that is what it is all about! I dress the way I do because I like it, no one else I know is doing it, and it expresseds my ideas and politics! That is why I give stock into the way I dress, I want people to have an idea of who I am/what I am like before they talk to me, but I don't care/label other people on how they dress, it is a personal thing.
