FBI Spying on Greenpeace, PETA and other Protest Groups!

    The New York Times just revealed that since 9/11 Bush has ordered the FBI to spy on domestic protest groups including environmental, animal rights and others. This includes monitoring their communications, websites and using agents infiltrated into these groups and informants.

    This is exactly what J. Edgar Hoover did in the 1960s & 70s, developing large files on groups and individuals with the specific intent to bring them down, break them up or neutralize their leaders (and he succeeded in many cases).

    This new revelation along with all the spying Bush has authorized upon Americans proves the fascist nature of the Bush regime, and it's disregard for American law and individual privacy rights.

    The rationale used for these intrusions into the completely legal activities of these groups is the war on terror, like Greenpeace and Catholic Workers are terror organizations.

    Doesn't it seem that all these resources are better used to fight the war on terror and not track domestic protesters and organizations that are trying to protect the environment and animal rights?

    I know how you feel. Especially as it becomes one revelation after another. However, you also need to remember this is what happened just before Watergate.

    May the leaks keep coming.

    The real patriots are the ones who blow the whistle the loudest on the Bush administration's dirty deeds. At this point there are so many to choose from, it's hard to sort them all out. And I believe we've only seen the tip of the iceberg.

    The whole Bush scenario from his first election (stolen) till today is such a pile of Bushit, which is about to hit the fan...

    ya know, the other day on cnn i actually heard a senator mention the word "impeachment". could we be so lucky?

    Well imagine how it is over here in Oz where we now have "anti-terror" legislation passed that allows people to be arrested and detained for two weeks on suspicion alone. It will then be illegal for them to tell anyone that they've been arrested/detained (penalty 5 years jail), but they will be allowed to tell one family member that they are well but won't be home for a while ~ no mofre than that!! If a family member is told, and they tell anyone else ~ 5 years jail!! The bill can only be reviewed in 10 years!! Those arrested/detained will have to then prove that they were not involved in terror-related activities ~ no habeus corpus!!
    You wanna know what fascist is?? ~ come to Australia!

    Uh, I AM in the land of Oz. And on top of that, I understand it's now a crime here to denigrate the land of Oz, or the great wizard. It really is a fantasyland here. They still believe in the White Australia policy, and are now enforcing it on Sydney beaches apparently.

    But that's another thread.

    nope..post a link if you can ?.

    They 'spied' on Greenpeace and other organisations way before 9/11...it seems Greenpeace [and others] are not completely filled with peace lovin' hippy tree huggers.. even YOU must be aware of that .. many acts are done on 'behalf' i have to add [e.g London greenpeace] ..but even so.



    Differing interpretation of the Law i think you will find.:rolleyes:

    You are mixing up rationales Skip...its not about the LEGAL activities.. Organisations have more LEGAL means to validate there POV than EVER...some don't wish to go down the LEGAL avenues though..

    SKIP....man I think that peta and greenpeace both have some great resources...i like to read their literature and look at their websites, but everyone always talks about how a lot of the members resort to violence and all that jazz.....I was wondering are you a member of either? I have been thinking about this....and i think it is bullshit about what my government is doing...and as far as yours...wow if thats true that is just outrageous...I already live in the country, but now i am about ready to move up into the hills and build an earthsip into the side of a mountain.

    Thats not news, the FBI has always monitored organisations deemed interesting. This will always happen, today and tommorow.
