For those with religious parents that think dreads are anti-christian because "cleanliness is next to godliness", ask them to look up this verse in your bible. "All the days of the vow of his separation there shall no razor come upon his head: until the days be fulfilled, in the which he separateth himself unto the LORD, he shall be holy, and shall let the locks of the hair of his head grow" King James Version also, i've read that John the Baptist had dreads. Just a lil info for the people that may need it
interesting point stuntdragon. also, i thought that i read somewhere that there is some speculation as to sampson's hair.....some think he had dreads. now don't quote me on it but it's another interesting little tidbit
haha yea i read that too but i was unsure. Also, i read that the first bishop of Jerusalem had dreads to his ankles.
The Bible does reference Samson as having (seven?) locks. unless they were tied up pieces of hair or something, then dreads are what they were. THen Delilah cut them off so he had no power. Even though it's just a story, it does show that dreads have been around probably as long as hair has.
hehehe...actually...i've done a LOT of research into all of this^^..lol. i'm a Christian, and i've had to really find unique ways to convince the old-school hardcore southern baptist people that my dreads aren't satanic..lol. i haven't told them this one, because i KNOW this will cause controversy..lol. but i'm a firm believer in the fact that Jesus had dreadlocks^^...lol. John the Baptist had them for 2 reasons...most people think it was because he lived in the in the forests and ate locusts(which is prolly true too)...but the way Babies were chosen to be Nazarites were when an angel of God came down to the parents and told them that they're child was chosen by God to do great things(samson's parents got that call)..John the Baptist's parents vere visited by an angel who said all of that. so..according to the nazarite law like ya said, they'd have dreadlocks. All of the parents in those times who followed God WANTED an angel to come tell them that their child was chosen by God, so they all would want that when they had kids(wouldn't you?..lol..i mean..c'mon..coool^^)...SO. an angel came to Mary and Joseph. told em mary would be pregnant and still be a virgin(crazy by itself), and that their child is chosen specially by God to free the people from their sins. Mary and Joseph didn't know at the time Jesus was THE Messiah when He was born. the only explanation they KNEW to follow would be the rule of the Nazarite.....which would lead to dreadlocks^^.. it really doesn't matter...lol...if He had em or not, but it's still a cool thought^^
My question is what parents would put dreadlocks and god together? Like having dreads isn't anti-christ or anything.
