i was wondering if you could answer this question for me. I've been thinking about it alot but am still not sure. Do you need a male from one breed and a female from another to get seeds that will have both qualities?????

    Grafting??? Riiiiight.
Simple pollination man. Or fucking if you prefer.
Let the male from one strain fuck or pollinate
a female from another strain. The seeds from the female will hold
genetics from both strains. Plant them grow them smoke them.

yeah thats basically how you do it, but it takes a few generations to work out all of the bugs and kinks........not everything comes out perfect the first time you try it.

Nope. Grafting is what you do with fruit trees to have various strains of branches on a single tree.
Grafting MJ is very very difficult and having experience doing it can say it's not worth the agro. I used to experiment with the male plants rather than compost them straight away.

    This is a graft.

The goal was getting two strains on one plant.

    Select branch.

Graft and bind. I use elastic so the graft can flex until healed.

Back to crossing plants, having one strain pollenate another isn't as simple as you think. Two strains may have originated from the same grandparent but in breeding now look greatly different. Crossing these may end up with an unstable strain cause you've just had a plant have sex with it's sister. As in life you have to stay away from such antics or your asking for trouble.
If you do cross look at the plants background and make sure the strains have different backgrounds. Theres not many that you can cross at home now as so many are related. Especially SK#1 which dominates more strains than you'd ever imagine.
Saying this you can cross anything and see what results you get. You may be lucky and you may well not.

I'm pro experimentation and once you try it it gets in your blood, so give it a go. Read a bit about strains first though- F1, Back crossing etc etc. You may get into it and like me end up with a healthy supply of Feminized seed stock. Best of all, it costs nothing too.............

Put a plastic bag over the flowering male flowers and wait until the Pollen is in the bag, then take it off, and go to a female Bud, and put the bag over it.

It depends on the genetics which qualities it is going to have. Like groth, flowering THC-rate,...

Whewn you breed 2 different strains, the plants grown from the resulting seed progeny will have attributes of both parents, just like with people.
And, just like with people, the plants will be slightly different from their "brothers" and "sisters".

They will pass on both good and bad traits. Lets say yoiu have a plant that has a high yield and finishes in the normal amt. of time but has low potency, and you breed it with a plant that has low yield, high potency and finishes late.
Some of the offspring will be low yield & potency that finishes late (not good).
It takes many succesive generations to get a new strain that keeps the positive attributes, in the above case being high yield & high potency and finishes in a normal amt. of time.

Yea ^ ranger and golden know the deal... it's a lot of work and involves careful selection of phenotypes that possess qualities you are looking for. So unless you got a huge space and a fair amount of time, you can't really breed cannabis too effectively.
