I don't really believe in that story of the divine afterlife, I'm all about reincarnation, or the idea that we're just phsyicly sucked back into the web of life as our body decomposes in the ground. I think the old Indian Vedic Scriptures have a good spin on things, with the multiple levels of self, and how that energy dicipates and manifests its self post mortum. Like shit, burry me in the ground under a young sappling on protected land, and let it grow over the centuries, and when that tree finally comes to fall it will be the life force that feeds the next generation of saplings, and so on. And on the level of conciousness those thaughts and that etching of your life surely is not lost, time will obscure it's path, but it is there, slowly winding and weaving.
