I don't know who you are! I don't know what you celebrate! I don't know even if you don't celebrate! Soooo ... Merry Fourth Week of December! (And a Merry International Philanthropic Religious Tolerance Day if you celebrate that like I do. ^_^) Now, presents! <3 Haha
Just frikkin say it, merry christmas! No one gets offended by that. If you are offended, here's what you do: 1. Bend over 2. Remove pole from ass 3. Stand up and enjoy your holiday It's just words, people! Christmas (and Hanukka, and Kwanza, and all the rest) lives in your heart; not your tree, your holy book, or your holiday greeting.
"Just frikkin say it"? Why? What's the point, if you don't celebrate it? That's just dumb, kind of like saying "happy birthday" when it's not your birthday.
Totally agree. I'm pagan, but do christmas with my family, so don't personally mind the greeting. Hey after all the wine, chocolate and presents I am pretty damn merry. Still definetly appreciate 'happy holidays' for it's inclusivness. Being a non christian like to think our celebrations are acknowledged in some way. Just humor us, and we'll humour you, only fair.
Because Christmas is as much a secular holiday as it is a religious holiday. It is as much a pagan holiday as it is a Christian holiday. I'm not saying that you have to say it, but I think it's really stupid that people are afraid to say it lest they offend someone. If anyone is offended by such holiday wellwishing, it's their problem, not yours. They shouldn't be so sensetive.
That is the way I see it as well. I mean come on if people are that easily offended then wtf are they doing on a free speech forum anyways?? There is this thing called reality... I dont know if anyone has heard of it or not? maybe?
He heee ... but deep down, the reason I don't say merry Christmas is so that it DOES offend people ... But seriously, if someone wishes me a happy holiday that I don't celebrate, why should I be obligated to wish them a happy holiday that they celebrate? And when I don't ... why must it be percieved as it is? (And vice versa ... if they wish me a happy holiday/merry IPRTD, I'd wish them a merry christmas [or whatever they celebrate] back)
Haha, I hear that man. I decided that if anyone got offended at me saying happy holidays, as I sometimes do, and demanded I say Merry Christmas, that I'd go "oh, so I guess what you mean is you want me to actually say the holiday's name, eh? Ok, happy Hanukka" just to spite them. Unfortunately, no one got mad. Or, perhaps fortunately. True. But usually I'd just be polite and say "thank you, you too." I figure they mean well, just to wish me a good time this holiday season (they almost certainly mean nothing bad by it), and I return them the favor. No reason to start an argument on the spot over it. It pains me nothing to wish someone a merry christmas or a happy hanukka or whatever else, even if I don't celebrate it. Though, I do celebrate Christmas. Not as a Christian, but I take what meaning I can out of the Christian aspects and leave the rest; that is, I can take the ideas of love, peace and joy, of the birth of light in the world, and leave out the fact that Christians think accepting their diety is the only true path. Some might call that spineless, pick-and-choose religion, I call it finding the good in everything.
Lets make up a new holiday to celebrate. and not even celebrate it in december, but in March when there isnt many holidays. What should we call it?
I get offended!! Because I don't like people ASSUMING Im christian. And Christmas is a christian holiday.
Oh, and this year when people have wished me a merry xmas at the grocery store or wherever my reply has usually been along the lines of "Well, I don't celebrate xmas but I hope that you have a happy day if you do"
Can you blame them? Most people in America ARE Christian. They're playing the odds. Why would anyone be offended by that? That's like being offended because they say "Leo's are so cool" even though you're a Pisces. How the hell would they know? And why does it even matter?
Because I don't like anyone to assume anything about me. Spirituality and religon run deep for people. Me included and its not something you can really compare to being a Leo and a Pisces. Christians want the same respect I do, which I try to give. I want the same in return.
Due to the fact that the good 'ol USA consists of a majority of christians: Merry Christmas! Fuck the rest.
I think it's more along the lines of saying "Great day to be a Leo, huh?" to a Pisces, rather than "Leo's are so cool." And a lot of Pisces, and Scorpios, and Cancers, even if they are vastly outnumbered by Leos, may get annoyed at this.
Do you think it is right to deliberately seek to annoy people? Isn't it enough that we can do it by mistake?
