I keep hearing to NOT wax my hair. However, I am satistfied with the results of wax on my hair after I backcomb. I think a lot of people put way too much wax in their hair. I just lightly coat the outside and melt it with a blowdryer so you can't even really feel it. After I work on my dreads, I need something to protect them. All the rubbing makes them very brittle and I have tested to see just how brittle and ripped at one dread and sure enough some hair ripped right off. I know conditioners are a no-no because they leave residue and untangle your lovely knots. So, if I shouldn't use wax, and I still need to protect and nourish my hair, what can I use? P.S. I am vegan, so no animal tested products and nothing crazy that has animals parts in it. I would like to find a purely vegan dread wax but all I can find right now is the beeswax, which I know isn't vegan. So this is important for me.
i suggerst going to a Lush,or Bodyshop kinda place, anything with Tea Tree oil in it would be great !!, no need for wax etc,
I wouldn't recommend wax just because of all the shit it leaves in your hair. I use knotty boy (www.knottyboy.com) tightening gel because it really keeps the frizz etc. down but just be sure not to use too much at all because you don't want your dreads crunchy and sticky. (It's wash out too, so that's the major bonus)
Ok A) what ou just said about melting it in thats one of the big reasons NOT to use wax. it builds up inside and WILL go MOULDY. trust me. Electricbuddah cut his beautifull dreadies off for this reason. B) Wax doesnt help knotting, it prevents the movement of the hair all it does is glue it together not knott it. C) Wax does NOT replenish dreads. its wax... thats all it is. D) personally i found that "working" dreads did little for my dreads too ... but i gues that a personal choice. For replenishing dreads the method that i have been told (though i have never used as I leave my dreads to do as they please) is aloe plant extract. Get an aloe vera leaf and split it along the centre so its in two long thin halfs. Scrape the white residue from inside. Lather up with a bit of water like you would soap and apply like shampoo. Aloe does have a moisturising quality but it doesnt grease the hair like conditiner does. It helps give it nutrients. However tearing and ripping at your hair will ruin it anyway. Also reemmebr a large majority of the hair in your dreads will be dead hair so once you've ripped it and ruined it it wont come back to life with any oils, its dead. This is why i decided to lay of the twist and rip method after a few months. I still play with my ends out of habbit occasionally but never to any extent. Tea tree oil is good for the scalp and for keeping away beasties. Its anti bacterian so its goot for flaky scalps and itchies. Quazia (dont know how to spell it) once boild up and left to cool as a liquid is GREAT for getting rid of nits. we swear by it in brighton.
