I just finished watching the movie Closer, just about everything about this movie pissed me off,the movie is about love and relationship, the truth really. The whole movie was just one big lie, from the time the relationships formed in the movie to the end. Lie after lie. What pisses me off the most about this movie is I can relate to it. The movie is actually true to real life, everyone lives off of lies. This is the part were I started thinking and actually made me a bit upset and sad to think this is actually how our world works. Fav quotes: "I want the truth, Im addicted to it" "Lieing is the most fun a girl can have without taking off her clothes"(evven tho I disagree) Has anyone else seen it? What did you think of it?
I adore Closer. It is really brutal, but I think it is quite honest, at least about the way some relationships can be. A review I read of was talking about the way it explores the contradiction between the sayings "the truth hurts" and "the truth never hurt anyone"...that's accurate too. and I thought the acting was incredible, especially Natalie Portman. wow. I even like Julia Roberts in it...never thought I'd say that and i love the soundtrack - caramel by Suzanne Vega and The Blower's daughter by Damien Rice are great songs that set an awesome atmosphere. They are perfect, even. Anyway, i'm going to avoid a ramble and say that i love it. It won't leave you with the warm fuzzies, but that's refreshing - I'd rather watch people screwing each other over in Closer than some romantic fluff film where the main plot ends with a comically mistimed dash to the airport and/or hugh grant being endearing. Ugh.
I think your right, I think I may have forgotten to mention that even tho it pissed me off completly I still loved it. I Love the truth about it. even the truth that hurts. oh and it just goes without saying that the soundtrack is amazing. infact when I wrote this thread I was listening to a few songs from it. =)
I loved this movie. Very much in the cynical tradition Neil Labute with characters that are despicable without shame. For another film very similar but better in terms of quality is "We don't live here anymore". Much deeper symbolism and much better performances. I loved that one much more.
i loved closer. i thought itd be kinda lame, but i decided to watch it cause Portman and Owen are in it. And I was just blown away. it had so much to say. dang, now i want to see it again.
I felt just the opposite. I LOVED Closer. Amazing, brutally honest, amazingly well acted film. But I thought "We Don't Live Here Anymore" was only just okay. I thought the acting was excellent, and I'm a pretty big fan of all four actors who play the main characters, but the script failed to make me care about these people. I couldn't even summon the energy to dislike them.
Tho most people I talk to hated this movie, I liked it.. I think I said in another thread about it that Damien at the beginning n ending was just PERFECT....I love me some Damien tho...Caramel is an awesome song too and I love Jem's Closer song. I agree about prefering this kinda movie to the typical Hollywood love fluff...
in the previews, closer looks terrible, hollywood shit - please persuade me to watch it. And jude law is beautiful
It was alright. It wasn't as good as I thought it would be but I still enjoyed it. The last part, where he finds out she lied about her name (alice ayres) gave me the chills.
he def looks good in that movie but man hes a prick character what was a bit funny to me about that movie was (marky marks) character haha
you mean mark wahlberg? God he's so funny. By the way, I remember what movie made me realise jude law is so amazing. "Wilde" I think thats what it was called? The one about oscar wilde and he plays his gay lover.
