we just took in a ferel cat to get her spayed and also to get help for what we thought was a broken leg...turns out some asshole shot her with a buck shot. I dont even know what that is but her shoulder is filled with a bunch of small pieces of it. it happened in the summer but because she was ferel it took this long to finally catch her. now we keep her in. PLUS, my other old cat, got shot with a pellet gun last summer and had to get her tail amputated. we have lived here forever and always let our cats outside and never had any problems. its a very nice safe road...so we thought. now we keep all our cats inside ( we kept the ferel cats 4 kittens too :) )
but its just sucks this is the 5th reported shooting on our street!! this person is gonna get what he deserves. I dont even know if theres anyway to find this person, the town isnt helping out too much.

oh i just needed to vent!!!

that is a shame : ( ... I don't know why people do the things they do. Some people think it is OK to get rid of a cat that 'nobody' cares about.

look for a teenage boy or an older man with a nice garden . maybe he is protecting his property from the cats? then again maybe its just a asshole doing it for fun i dont know. but if its your pet keep in undercontrol and on your property and you probably wont have a problem.

you dont belive protecing ones property is reason enough to shoot a cat. i prefer cats over dogs myself but it would be stuipd of me to let my cat out too shit in the the old guys next door flower bed and kill his prize winning roses.

like most conversations i have in these forums its funny how so many people that think of them selves as liberal only like it when its for their favor. and just ignore or have no regard for the property of others.and are so intolerent to the ways of others just because you dont agree with them.

my only point is if you dont want stupid people shooting your cat keep it in.
and that no matter how selfish you are every person has the right to protect their own property.

apparently none of us know who or why the cat was shot and i was only guessing , but if it was a person protecting their property that shot the cat. its only the cat owners fault for not properly careing for the animal.

haha...yeah and as for me i guess those damn deer are irresponsible...they got into my corn one year, but hey it doesnt matter if a deer is irresponsible around here in the country you put up things around your garden so that animals dont want to get into it....nobody round here wants to shoot a deer like that, they need them in the woods to shoot later......cats dont really tear up peoples gardens....as far as the shit goes, hey i would be happy...wouldnt have to go anywhere but the garden to fertilize it.....but yeah I know you were just throwing out ideas...so its all good.

quotes from gardenweb.com about cat manure in gardens.

"Cat dung is something I wouldn't use. It sometimes contains parasites ect. that may prove harmful to human health."

"The question "what does nature do with cat-poop"
First: how much land would a natural (wild) cat need to keep house?
Second: have you ever turned over cat-poop and seen any insects munching it away? As in the case: "cow-dung versus dung-beetle"
To ignore that concentrated meat-eating animals' poop makes bad sence is to ignore all nature's rules of space and inhabitants within.Just because we domesticated animals does not mean we could ignore their natural habitat and how they themselves keep their hunting/foodground clean.
Example:Let a cat roam and see how far it travels within 15 minutes.
    Thumbs down for cat manure:-(
Get a few chickens and let them scratch, they are natural fertilizing/egglaying/meatproviding/insect-distroyers, saves a lot of plowing up your yard. "

"nitrogen + carbon = compost. Maybe you could compost the wood with the poop. Of course, number one still applies. And while I've never composted meat eaters poo, i've heard from several sources that it is an "advanced composting method". "

this dont say much and is all hypothetical but just cause you think its ok for your cat to shit someplace other than your own property maybe the owner of said property disagrees.
just stop being so one sided in your views. and hey even if it was the best fertelizer in the world it still dont give a person the right to let their animal deposite it there.

and for the wild deers. in florida farmers shoot them on site when they enter the fields. maybe not the little farmers growing items for personal use but anythat make a living off farming have to protect their livelyhood. watermeleon and tomatoe farms are great places to hunt deer and wild hogs in south florida. and the owners seem to have no problem finding people to hunt the land and take care of what they deem a pest.

We have to keep a slingshot and pennies handy in my kitchen because so many strange cats and dogs roam in my backyard.

They kill birds and drop them on our front step, they terrorize my dog, and they eat our plants that we've worked so hard to make live. While I normally don't hit them (I don't actually aim for them but the sound scares them away), I occasionally do. Not only is there a leash law (and I regularly call animal control on the loose dogs) but I can't let my dog outside on her run because several times dogs and cats have come and attacked her. It's ridiculous.

Locally, there is some kind of fatal dog flu going around that is transmitted by feces as well as some other more minor diseases being spread by cat feces. So yes, I think it's completely within my right to slingshot at animals who make it impossible for my own dog to be outside in our own yard off her leash.

I'd shoot up a cat 10, 15, maby 20 times, just because it looked at me and made that anoyng meow sound. Then maby I'd rip it open and throw it's gutts everywhere, and then I'd piss on the gutts and send them to an animal shelter and say "try saveing this one, ha ha ha".

i still don't think he has any right to shoot it. you can't expect a cat to know that's wrong, but i agree with the staying inside thing.

i had a cat when i was little that was half outdoor and half indoor. the neighbor's kids had bb guns(?) and they shot her twice in the eye. i have no idea why, probably out of boredom...how crappy:confused: but i really don't like the idea of outdoor pets, i hate the thought that my cats might get run over or hurt. it's much safer to keep them indoors, and i think that'd cut down the stray population a lot. okk enough rambling...

they cat may not know its wrong to mess in somebody elses property but the you would think the owner would and then keep the animal properly housed and controled.

im not saying its right to shoot the cat but i cant say its wrong either. its not my cat and its not getting into my stuff. all i was throwing out here was my thoughts on the subject.

I definantly would try to get rid of an animal causing such problems, but I think that Silverclover's got a better idea than shooting them. A water hose is a good detterent for a stray cat or dog. The only way I would think of shooting someones pet would be if it was attacking my pet or children. Or maybe try talking to the owner, I mean I either keep my cat in all the time, or it runs free. Even the most loving pet owners can't keep a cat in a fence.

BTW cat feces carries lots of parasites, our neighbor put cat litter on my garden trying to help. My middle child picked up a parasite that caused seizure's from working in the garden so I definantly wouldn't recommend it as a fertilizer.
