This is on the bestseller's list still, I think, so someone might've already posted about it.

I thought it was going to be good, but not this good. It's definitely among, if not THE best book I've read all year. This book brought me to tears, and it wasn't the cheap kind of tears. I don't know what really caused it. Excellent writing, excellent story. Grows a little unlikely towards the end (I want to say Act 3 climax), but still plausible. Loved it.

    Anyone else?

Do you think it's a work of literary or commercial merit? I've briefly pondered that Hassan is supposed to be a symbolic character. I'd say Jesus, but it doesn't really fit. He did essentially pay for the sins and shortcomings of others, which makes Amir look like Judas. But the son doesn't really fit in with that allegory...which leave me confused and wondering if I'm reading into it too far. :(

I thought it was amazing, I read it last May while I was in Egypt, and it was fascinating to discuss the story over a shisha pipe with a few locals who explained the significance of certain things. My hubby was in Afghanistan for 4 months over the summer and he took the book with him, every where he went the afghan people were overjoyed to talk to him about it and were always suprised that someone from the west had ever heard of the kite runners. Everyone he spoke to about it signed the book, and there are now 64 names and messages of goodwill crammed on the inside covers and first few pages. Its one of the most special books I own.
