My theatre company is going to do "Inherit the Wind" (based on the Scopes trial) for our next show. I think I'm going to try out for the part of the judge, but I have never acted in a drama before. Musicals with shreds of drama, yes, but no 1.5 hour, uninterrupted, non-musical drama! In addition, every show this company has done since I've been around has been either musical or straight comedy. I have no idea how to go about this. Does anyone else with a penchant for theatrical arts have any advice?

lol, im just the opposite, straight drama or comedy. ive done a musical, but my singin voice isnt all that good so im limited there, but for your question...

hmmm....well really from my experience its not too much different than any other play, just less singin/ comedy. definatly try to read the script, or atleast the part, and try to get a feel for the part. if you've worked with the director before and know them a bit, just talk with them about the part to get an idea of what he/she wants for the part. talk with him/her about how you see the part, to see if your moving in the right direction. also ask other people you've acted with before to get their input, chances are they will help you alot more than most of us could over the internet.

We read Inherit the Wind in my English class. I switched between Hornbeck and Reverend Brown. Let me just say that playing Rev. Brown was INTENSE. It was against all my morals, so it was enjoyable to experience another point of view. :) Break a leg!
