    The reasoning is thus:

First, the Gulf Stream is a current of water. Warm water rises in the tropics, flows along the top of the Atlantic Ocean towards the poles. As it travels it cools and by the time it gets to the north it is cold water which sinks to the bottom of the ocean and travels back to the tropics. The Gulf Stream is a vertical loop in the ocean, which brings warm water north.

Because the arctic is warming, the down flow is decreased, decreasing the pull and the warm water flows towards Africa rather than the Arctic.

The lack of warm water causes the air to get colder.

Global warming causes greater extreems in weather as well as a relativly slight adverage rise in temps.

The Bush administration does not dispute that global warming is happening. It beleives that polution and other human activities do not cause or affect global warming.

Everyone beleives that it is happening, they just argue about what causes it and what can be done to stop it. I've heard no one talk about what we will need to do because of global warming. Those assign a human cause claim it will last at least a century. But no one is telling us if we should plant palm trees in the Dakotas.

But.... but... wait a second, now. Wait.

When you notice that a thermometer next to a city jumps one degree, you say you know for sure it's because of human pollution, and therefore we need to sign Kyoto. No need to try and explain the cause, just accept it. Earth getting warmer, trash your car.

But if it goes down, wait wait again, hang on now, in a greenhouse, it gets colder.
    Huh?

If temperatures go up it's cause of Global Warming.
If temperatures go down it's cause of Global Warming.

Is Global Warming a religion or something?

Global Warming is an observed fact. Ice cores, temperature records, a whole slew of different measurements from different fields show that the average global temprature is rising.

The interactions in a complex thermodynamic system like the earth and its atmosphere can be starteling. This increase in adverage temprature results in both warmer summers and colder winters.

Do we need to sign Kyoto? That depends on whether humans affect the environment enough for Kyoto to help fix Global Warming.

That the global thermometer is rising is not in doubt. What caused that rise and what we can do about it is an issue.

I just thought of an analogy. Consider a child on a swing. If you regularly push the child towards the north, you will increase its northward speed AND its speed when traveling south.

RE: Global Warming is an observed fact.

Except when it's getting colder, then it still exists. ?

RE: Ice cores, temperature records, a whole slew of different measurements from different fields show that the average global temprature is rising.

Certain terrestrial thermometers could indicate that. But I mean, if an insulating blanket over the earth is making it hotter and the ice floes are melting why is the ice pack in Antarctica growing?

I edited in an analogy while you were typing.

I'm no expert, (just reporting what I hear), but I thought that I heard that the Antarctic Ice sheets were getting smaller. My distrust of data coming from any advocacy groups sometimes causes me to miss stuff.

Sorry MikE, but in fact the ice sheet in the Antarctic is getting thicker.

People have been going through the records and diaries of those Victorian era explorers who tried for the Arctic. According to their records they could sail by ship far further North than you'd expect, indicating that the ice up there grows and shrinks cyclically.

The big fancy computer model that suggests we're all gonna die isn't exactly panning out as planned ---- but nevertheless they're not throwing out the theory.

Hmm.. I guess I was right all along. The wisdom of reducing pollution is not dependant on impending global doom. Adapting the Boy Scouts "leave nothing but footprints" to the atmosphere is a sufficiant reason.

Too many environmetalists act like the wacked religious nuts. Substitute "nature" for "God" and the rhetoric sounds very similar. "Global warming" filled the "rapture/end of times" niche.

Oh well, back to respecting the planet for no good reason.

Bush doesn't give a fuck about anything other than his own short term power and financial gain... he won't have to live in the world of tomorrow, he'll be rich enough to keep himself afloat until his time is up and that's all that matters to Mr Adolf Bush

If the temperature goes UP it's global warming.
If the temperature goes DOWN it's global warming.
If the glaciers increase in size it's global warming.
If the glaciers melt away it's global warming.

Why don't these nuts just say "this is our religion" and be DONE with it?

its not that its the record low temperatures and the record high temperatures, mabie you should reserch it more.
