I have no clue what exactly was the purpose...it just kinda came out...tell me what you think...

Ladies and gentlemen, I think there is something wrong today. I’m sorry, but the state of the world is indeed sad. War, grotesque materialism, people being beheaded…and we all sit here and shrug. I’m sorry to say that for awhile I was one of those who turned my head as well. Not me, not my problem. But I was so wrong. It is my problem. Hell, it’s yours too. You can deny it as much as you like, but the fact of the matter is, being a human being makes it your problem.

Yes, you are lucky to have what you’ve got and you can argue that you’ve worked hard for those things, but in the end, does it matter? Seriously. You leave the world the way you came, spirit soul. All you’re brought up to be and all that you’ve worked so hard for, it really doesn’t matter in the end. Now, I can understand the point, you’ve got to eat, you need shelter. Go ahead, get those things, but don’t be attached to them. You can now stop and say, “She’s a kid, what does she know.” But here me out before you leave. Ok, everyone’s always going on about “marry a rich man”, “marry a doctor”. I know, I’ve heard it in my own life. Ok, so you marry your man and he’s filthy rich; you have all the things you could ever want, but as a price, your husband’s too busy to spend time with you or you really never loved him in the first place. Now where are you? Who ever said money could buy happiness indeed had some sort of clouded vision.

By this point you must be asking yourself, “What does marrying rich have to do with the state of the world today?” I’m getting there. Indeed the whole point is that in the end, if you’ve got all the wealth in the world, what have you gained when you are no longer material? Then look at the man who knows the value of happiness because he is in touch with something deeper than all that society tells us is important. A man, a person who understands that being human is not about money, it is about love and experience. Life is part and parcel of something bigger than us all, and with the modern ages everyone seems to forget that. They say, “Oh, well we know that there is a better world than this, so we’ll just do what we will now.” Well, what if you just keep coming back? What if you just keep coming back until you finally realize that you need to appreciate where you are before you can go somewhere better? Makes sense. Or what if you just don’t get there at all? It is like youth today to just blow off these concepts; I know a lot who have. They don’t realize that what they are blowing off is not God (or whatever you’d like to call this higher being), but organized religion, because it’s become just like everything else in our world, materialistic. They take your money, then they scare you half to death, then they take some more money, and from all that you’re supposed to be closer to God. I don’ think I was ever. Then, through music, through reading, I came to realize, it’s not what then tell you. They could defend it forever with the Bible, but if you read the words of Jesus, they are only part of what they are telling you. Further more, if you read other religious works, it’s all telling you the same thing and still we aren’t listening. We’re too brainwashed by society. Either you are a weird born again who follows every rule of the church or you aren’t and you’re a blasphemer. Of course there’s the third alternative, and that’s to be totally confused, not know what to know, and run away and avoid the subject. Which if you’ve made it thus far, you deserve a round of applause for not doing that. People get funny when you talk about God.

Now, I’m not saying that you have to believe what I believe. I’m not asking you go chant Hare Krishna when you’re through with this. I’m instead just warning you about what I’ve seen. I’m asking you to keep an open mind as it contributes to my feelings about the world today.

Now I mentioned society as being the reason why we lose so many of our values and I’ve mentioned money , and it’s all due to the dear friend of society, brainwashing. Why, my friends, do you think that things are the way they are? Indeed we are told to do this and be that right from the start, so whatever free will we have, we aren’t using much of. I’ll bet you would’ve never noticed that there was a small bump on your nose unless the girl on the television hadn’t pointed it out. Or that the size of your pants was too large, when in reality they aren’t anymore than the girl next door. I’ll bet you wouldn’t have even thought to think things about people just by seeing them, unless somebody, whether it be your elders or the television hadn’t pointed it out. Where do you think that stereotype, racism, discrimination, where do you think that all comes from? People are not born to hate, they are taught to hate. If we could just close our eyes and go about life, then maybe more people could see that. Everyone says, “Oh, its much better than it used to be.” Well, its not. After September 11th, forget being someone who even looked like they could be a member of al-Quida, even if they were Hispanic! And don’t think this is just pushed at White Anglo-Saxon Protestants. Oh no, everyone is guilty my friend. I’m not even excluding myself. The difference is, if you are aware, you can make the change.

I guess that’s the point that I’m trying to make. The point is that the problem with the world today is that we aren’t aware. Now I could sit here and point fingers forever, but in reality, we’re all to blame for everything in one way or another. It’s a matter of whether we give in to the brainwash and except the world as it is and just shake our heads in shame or whether we do something to make a difference. It’s very cliché to say, “one small part can make a difference”, but it’s true. I’m not telling you to go sell everything you own and live a life of solitude. No, I’m telling you to be aware, to try and improve yourself mentally and spiritually. A wise man once said that, “revolution starts within”, and it is true. We can not being to change the world, until we can change ourselves to practice what we want to create. So, instead of going through life convinced that things are that way and that way only and that only the way you know is right, open your mind. Be what you’ve always imagined. Indeed all the idealistic dreams of the world are many eons away, but I strongly encourage going through life with the realization that you are indeed contributing to bringing us one step closer to peace instead of one step closer to total destruction. I don’t care who you are, but love and light are better than hate and darkness any day of the week.

    amen. very deep.

what you cant take with you, you dont really need. what you can take with you, your mind and spirit, everything that's *taps forehead* up here, is what's important.

experience. love. happiness. memories. enjoyment. a life well lived.

also, what you pointed out about television; the brainwashing and paranoia it induces. so true. i try to limit my TV time or i would go crazy. i saw this anti wrinkle cream ad the other day. it said "from your late 20s the early signs of aging start to appear." exploiting the fragile female ego and paranoia to sell face cream. sad really.

nice writing you have there. you have a great head on your shoulders. love to hear more :)

It is really. I actually don't really watch tv...my parents bought me Monty Python's Flying Circus on DVD and that's the extent of my TV watching...

The brainwashing makes me sick...my sister reads those teen magazines. Its a shame the trash they fill the youth of today's heads with...::sigh::

teen magazines? dont get me started.

"how to get your crush to like you" and "what Justin Timberlake eats for breakfast! exclusive!!" or whatever else. god...... the way it seems to be is to grab em while they're young and innocent, and morph them into self obsessed freakishly mature pre teens in miniskirts and make up. thats how i see it anyhow.

walking past the magazine racks in a shop is entertaining for me actually. its amusing to read the article titles on the covers, like the ones i have mentioned already. its just....weird. i see 9 year old girls prancing down the street looking like hookers after they've had a few lessons in whats beautiful from these bizarre modern day female bibles.

not just kids and teens though, you see it on women's magazines too. some airbrushed model on the cover who we are all supposed to be aspiring to. normal people dont look like they were slapped with the photoshop stick when they wake up, including me. yet we are told that we have to, otherwise no one will find us attractive.

i could rant forever on this one, but i am very much going off track :)

Ahh...you're not too much off track...it is a shame. My own sister prances around and she talks like she's hooked on 'ebonics and when I mention to her that she doesn't need all that make-up or when I refuse to let her straighten my hair...she looks at me like I have a fourth eye. Everyone walks around with the need to be like you are told...and I have to say that there is a fine line between being respectful to your body and just being plain rediculous.

I also know what you mean about that "Tell how your crush feels about you", excetera type deals...its soo crazy...and I love how they love to put you in there own stereotypes while claiming "no one can tell you how to be, girl", yet they are doing it themselves....oh how its fun to get laughed at and dirty looks when you try to point that out to someone...

I don't know, I guess I'm just tired of it all...but it's all around me and its driving me mad because so many people are so clueless to it all...my mother and my sister tell me I'm paranoid...and I tell them they're brainwashed... its an interesting affair indeed...

That's why I read Archaeology magazine...no preteen mini skirts in that one ;) No instead I get to freak my sister's boyfriend out with mumification procedures...fun stuff indeed...

hey that was a very straight shot at what's going on. very cool writing. this is the kind of thing that separates people in the social settings into [trying to be cool] and [trying to be right] and [trying to be better]. I applaud you and those who're like you. there is much suffering that goes into those lessons you've learned and i'd like to pay my respect for your views.

Ah! Beatiful writing Buety, you truely sum up the great philosophies and facts of the hip culture and the world. You also tell them with such strong emotion, a buetiful piece indeed. This is something that I would copy a thousand times and hand it out to all the people I meet. Great Work!
