will it mean that the 00s are a simple reflection of what happened 20, 30 years ago? sort of a "mirror decade" cos we're half way through the end of the first decade of the century and i still cant find something that will make them look back into the 00s and feel that nostalgic feeling you get with past decades. or is it too soon to tell? this lack of new ideas...is it globalisation to blame? or is it marketing? or both? or maybe i'm just plain wrong, but it's just an observation.
Interesting speculation. I never really gave it much thought before, but I agree with you. Really, what will the 00's portray about us?
Dude, there was a 60s revival back in the 80s. A 70s revival in the 90s. The 00s has all these "classic 80s" stations. the 10s will look back to the 90s
that's exactly my point. my main question is whether this is because the 00s have not offered much or marketers are manipulating our nostalgia.
00 is a bit awkward to say so I think the subcon blocks out anybody mentioning it too much on the basis that people don't like to sound awkward... unless you're from the South.
Sept 11th Y2K scare Hurricanes What the fuck do yall expect? I think this is a case of exaggerating about the past decades. They weren't that cool. It's just that we were kids during those years and very impressionable. Granted we might be the generation that is more cynical than ever, but you guys are acting like nothing at all happened.
Fitty Cent Paris Hilton Jackass Britney Aguilera/Christina Spears etc. Nickelback Insane Clown Posse/Slipknot/any of a number of cookie cutter Korn Biskits Limp types presently spitting on the sidewalk in front of the mall Choppers
many things have happened in the 00s...but mostly negative things.... lets face it people, this decade is just plain boring, or as being the 00s, it doesnt count!, so we start afresh from 10s onwards....
oh man..will people actually look back and feel nostalgic about all that? people are nostalgic about vanilla ice back in the 90s....so i guess everything is possible.
As soon as 2011 hits I'm sure VH1 will churn out some retrospective. They're pretty good at telling me what to think.
Hey, they're trying to get me nostalgic about skinny leather ties. The music was somewhat good, but Jesus, the fashion. Unless you were as fortunate as I to be into Goth, christ. Dayglo breakdance wear, legwarmers, shaker knit sweaters....
back in the 90s, I didnt think there was much nostalgia then...... now lookin back on it, I see how much things have changed. once we get in the teens, we will see what this decade was all about..... like a previous poster said, every decade has a revival of a decade that was 20 years before it.......... in the 70s, they had a 50s revival, thanx to american graffiti, happy days, etc...... the 80s had a 60s revival, the 90s a 70s revival, and this decade an 80s revival....... have you noticed recently how many bands cover 80s tunes?? probably because most of the bands grew up in the 80s...... its all about influences.... movies are that way too......generation x is taking over, so there is alot of lookin back on the 80s and 90s.....
