Usually the remake of a song is not as good as the original version. But in your opinion, what remake of a song was better than or as good as the original? Or if the song has been officially recorded several times, which version do you like?

I'm not talking about some rap or pop song where the beat is sampled. I'm talking about the whole song being sung again, (almost entirely) lyric for lyric . And if you know both the original and the remake artist, let us know.

I have 2 songs, right off the top of my head:
Killing Me Softly - (originally done by, among others) Roberta Flack, redone (better) by Lauryn Hill.

I Will Always Love You - (originally) Dolly Parton, redone (better) by Whitney Houston.

I'd have to disagree with the "I Will Always Love You." The Whitney Houston version is completely overblown. Don't get me wrong, Whitney has a great voice, but the song loses the tenderness that Dolly gives it.

its not as good as the original, but i was always fond of Slayers version of InnaGaddaDavida. Black Sabbath does a nice cover of Evil Woman. Im not a huge claypool fan but he did a great Have A Cigar.

Im guessing we arent counting Hendrix and the like? All Along the Watchtower has gotta be the most recognized remake!

Yes, I definitely thought of these two songs right away.

    Also,

The Beatles cover of Mr. Postman (originally done by the chiffons??)
Britney Spears' cover of My Prerogative (originally done by Bobby Brown)

The Rolling Stones' version of "Like a Rolling Stone" (Live, from the album "Stripped)
The Who's version of "Summertime Blues" (Live, from the album "Live at Leeds")
The Animal's version of "House of the Rising Sun"
The Byrd's version of "Mr. Tambourine Man"

And of course Hendrix' version of "All Along the Watchtower". But that one goes without saying, of course.
