I want to get a 80s rock, synth pop, funk band together some time next summer in Los Angeles. If anyone plays anything and lives in that area let me know. I'm going to look elsewhere for musicians too. I've been tossing the idea around for about a year, and now I'm getting serious about it. Maby we could get some gigs at bars and stuff, but this is for fun more that monny, so you don't have to be real good. Skills in composisition would be helpful, but not real important, since this will be mostly a cover band. If anyone has advice about starting bands, let me know. Peace out.

best advice about starting a band: dont. :p

bands break up and more times than not the musicians in those bands cant handle themselves by themself.

yeah having a band is hard.....80's msuic? damn i think the only good thing that came out of the 80's besides most of the people on this site was Guns N Roses.....but if thats what you dig then go for it.

It's hard, but the fun is worth it. Like I said I've thought about it for about a year. There's a lot of good bands from the 80s like, Duran Duran, Tears for Fears, Van Halen ect. I might have gone with smooth jazz, but I can't find sheet music.

There is an art which is quite subtle, called learning from other peoples mistakes. Now, if you were to learn from the mistakes of 'Duran Duran', you would never pick up an instrument EVER and try to imitate their style. See if you can master this technique.
