I have been a ovo-veg for several months, almost a year. I eat right most of the time, get the right amount of proteins, and take iron supplements. But i have been becoming weak and my body has been craving meat, but my mouth hasnt. I am afraid of eating meat again because i think it will make me sick.

What are your expieriences with ever having to turn back to meat for health reasons? And if i go back are there any special ways i should, besides doing it gradually? Or do you have any suggestions to what i can eat to help the weakness without turning back to eating meat?

    Thank You.

Turn back to meat for health reasons? That's like going back to smoking to help your asthma.

Could you give me an idea of what your current diet is like? The absence of animal products does not make a diet healthy, you also have to include the foods that support a healthy lifestyle.

"" "My only consolation is that by eating us they're killing themselves." - cow ""

thats a great quote. but the way i see it nobody leaves this world alive. so why not enjoy it while your here? and if eating some dead animals is gonna kill me then atleast ill be doing my part to ease the worlds over population problem.

are you getting enough whole grains, whole fruits.veggies and iron? You might consider an iron supplement since you are (I assume) a menstruating girl. Be carfeul though, too much iron makes you feel like crap. Have you gotten into a slump? Get a cookbook for some fun and creative veggie foods. They are so tasty and most are s healthy, that you don't need to go back to meat. I wouldn't suggest it, ever. You need nutrient, NOT product. (I.e. calcium, NOT milk, protein, NOT meat, etc). All necessary nutrients can be found in a plant based diet :)
you should be fine. feel free to PM me if you need to talk or need encouragment. also, think of the animals :)

You shouldn't need meat to stay healthy. Why don't you think you're healthy?

I have been very weak and depressed, but that may be because i might be bipolar. and when im depressed i crave meat and it makes me sick and because i am not getting it my body gets weaker i guess, im really not sure. I do take an iron supplement but its only partially iron and the other part is vitamin c and other vitamins.

My parents seem to think that eating meat is healthy for you and its why i dont feel good a lot is because im not eating it, but i eat my grains and fruits and plenty of vegetables, i just can't figure out what i am missing.

depression can cause fat cravings. Try something fatty in real chocolate and see if that does the trick.
the chemicals in choc are quite similar to our dopamine/feel good chems.

coca does balance the brain... ive even read cocoa beans are an anti depressant and psychadelic and a very powerful antioxidant, but im not entirely sure how much truth there is to the anti depressant and psychadelic factor. but dark chocolate is the best, because it has the most cocoa in it, and plus its the kind thats vegan... over 70% is ideal, but any dark chocolate is good.

theres nothing at all in meat your missing if you eating your whole grains and a decently varied whole foods diet. maybe your body misses the antibiotics in it? haha.. the craving might just all be in your head though????

ALSO!!! omega fatty acids!!!!! essential brain food that should be eaten ideally every day and helps a lot with this kind of thing. at least 3-5 times a week though is what ive read. im sure your omni parents dont eat these, if they even know about them. find them in (ground)flax seeds or oil, products made with flax, hemp nuts or oil, peanuts, vegetable oils, and some other things that are slipping my mind....

i might recommend this hippie health book by andrew weil, who talks about nutrition and a healthy diet in af un way that makes it seem very possible..he also talks about spiritual and emotional health in detail :) i alllso might recommend raw veganism, ive read before thats its actually the cause of some imbalanced brains as well, too many toxins in the food. and i really wouldnt be surprised to find theirs some truth to that, cuz i know it picks me right up when i do it :)

you look very good and healthy in your sig though, very pretty girl :)
