Is there anyone on this board who lives in an Iowa commune? Don't laugh- there are some! I am particularly interested in the ones in and around Fairfield. Feel free to send me a private message here. Thank you!

Woodenfrog- when is the next circle? I want to learn to drum REALLY bad!!! That is one of my new year's resolutions, just wish drums weren't so expensive!
comfortably numb,,,, probly this spring as we drum arround the fire at our gardens.needs to warm up a bit.we have sevral that show up useally.we have all the drums, and we can get the local music shop to bring out more to try out. allso its possable to pic one up on e bay pretty cheap, ifve seen djembe"s for arround $100.00 on there. no worries summer is coming, keep intouch frog
woodenfrog- i have been looking on ebay and there are some sweet drums on there. problem is, i know nothing about them other than the brand i'm looking for. the lady that told me the brand to get also told me that i should try it before i buy it to see how it sounds. i'm totally new to drumming so i wouldn't know if it was good or bad anyway! what size is a "good" drumming size?
by golly (and howdy froggy , yaya , n' hope we can meet this spring) another iowa guy here and i like drums alot . one fab drum i've met wasn't so very large but still had an excellent boom was one of those hour-glassed shape djembe drums . it's got a head made of bison hide which makes all the difference . in africa , for community drums , they like water buffalo skin . most of their trade drums seem to be made with goat-skin though , though not all . tho tho tho tida~t da~t aaaaaaaaa ioWA~~~~
btw,,,its really nice to here from folks neer us.hip forums is verry global.decent size comunity here,,hope to shake more hands and give more hugs to folks in iowa land of the forever sunshine one in all frog
It's so nice to see another Iowa hippie- so far I think i'm the only female! Lucky me I am watching bids on a very nice djembe drum on ebay. It ends tonight and I plan on making it MINE!! If so, I should have it by this weekend and I am SUPER SUPER stoked. I have been wanting to drum for so long, I can just feel the anticipation building in me. Drumming around a fire would be so cool. I built a fire pit in my back yard a few years ago, but I live in the city so it wouldn't be too conducive to a drum circle outside! I may be making a trip east (I'm in DSM) to the drumming circles already mentioned! Keep on posting Iowa hippies, it's great to get to know one another and hopefully we can all meet up sometime.
Email the site master and ask them to put an Iowa subforum under the travel/usa section so that we have an Iowa spot represented. I sent my feedback email this morning!
