Has anyone ever read this book? It's pretty old but it's a good read. (Probably more of a chick book though) It's about a few girls who try to make it big in NY city as models and other things but soon get addicted to pain kills and other pills. It's a great book in my opionion, just wanted to know others thoughts on it. :)

this book was the recess playground prize of secrecy back in like 67 when it first hit the streets. i was in the 6th grade... at Loma Portal elementary in Point Loma/ San Diego. there were some girls in my class who had it and were enthralled at it's scandoulously exciting depravity! they talked about it in whispers and giggles, i'll never forget it's power to titilate! Sharon Tate played a lead in the movie. She was sooo stunningly beautiful. it's Sad.

I know. I have heard woman tell me story about how they would sneek the book away from their mother or another older woman just so they could read the juicy details that were a big deal in those days!
Thanks for your comments Keanua! :)

I saw the movie first---I thought it was good; I eventually bought the book--Your right Sharon Tate was beautiful--it's very tragic what happened to her. Sunshine

Valley of the Dolls was amazing. Someone who knew Jaqueline Susann wrote a sequel to it a few years ago, Shadow of the Dolls. Not as good, but it was nice to see "whatever happened to Ann Welles". The coolest thing about Valley of the Dolls, imo, is that after reading it or seeing the movie, it's easy to see all of these references to it... well, everywhere! In the media, movies, other books, lectures, whatever. It's pretty cool that a book like that had so much impact.

An extremely depressing book as I remember.

Tate was a knockout til the family struck.
Never saw the movie but its music was Good.

Still have a copy of Helter Skelter.

Oh yes: Jacqueline Susan's:'Valley Of The Dolls'.
I've read passages of it but not the whole book.Is it set in 1940s Hollywood?.
I have seen the 1967 film & it could qualify as the worst film ever made. Not even Sharon Tate's sultry performance could save this film.Luckly Judy Garland walked off the set after only a few days filming.
Having said that the book is much more user-compatable.
