Now this is a story to look at which is in the Guardian apparently the CIA gave the Iranian government some blueprints to build a nuclear weapon. Should we be concerned or not? Discuss. Matt
Should we be concerned ?...No imho.. Reading the article it seems a crucial part of a nuclear device.. no bog standard part but a ''special part'' was being dangled by the CIA via a operative ... The ''special part' was knowingly flawed though.. the whole point was to give a flawed plan to the Iranians to garner a better understanding of the Iranian nuclear programme.. Hopefuly throwing a spanner in the works also. Unfortunatly it went wrong. The CIA did NOT give them plans for a whole nuclear weapon. ... but such Trojan horse operations involved conventional weapons; none of the former officials had ever heard of the CIA attempting to conduct this kind of high-risk operation with designs for a nuclear bomb [that should be part of]. The former officials also said these kind of programmes must be closely monitored by senior CIA managers in order to control the flow of information to the adversary. If mishandled, they could easily help an enemy accelerate its weapons development. That may be what happened with Merlin.
