I forgot my ID so they didnt let me in the school to take my sat. After that,i became aware of how standerdized testing is wak. lol.
Those scores can help a lot if they're good enough. My 28 helped me get into certain places. It is decent and I believe the average is 21. But you gotta love a system that measures you're intelligence on those types of tests. I winged the science part. The teacher said "ten minutes" and I had a ton left so I basically skimmed and randomly filled in shite for the rest of that. My english was perfect though.
I never took the ACT.. by my SATs were Math: 630, Critical Reading: 690, and Writing: 770 (that's the new SATs, of course). I think those correspond to around a 32, I think? I know they're very different tests but you can still estimate ACT scores from SATs, somewhat.
Well when I took the sat's a few years ago in high school as a junior, they were pretty stupid, but I thought the ACT was a lot more uhh logically structured. So about as accurate a measurement of intelligence as a few numbers can be I guess lol, and you're right, a high ACT (28+) will most def. help you out, I had a dam high score for a vokie, and got all kinds of scholarships to state universities and northeastern u (the only private one I applied to), but I took too many mushrooms and smoked too many blunts which led to the realization that college is a scam.. so now I race with all the other rats for a piece of cheese :sunglasse My advice to anyone preparing who is reading this thread is to go out and get an act study guide, and shoot for a high score, it may literally pay off in the end. and nice dreads you've got there.
I feel like I'm in high school... "What did you get? What did you get?" Blah...I've never been a good test taker. I got a 26
got a 32 on the ACT....and i ended up at the local community college anyway. didn't get around to finishing all the paperwork for anywhere else on time. go figure....
It also doesn't measure your success in college...so it seems silly for colleges to look at an ACT score or any one test score as criteria for admission... Seems like you'd want to look more at the OVERALL GPA.
true true...my GPA says that i was/am a slacker with potential when paired with my ACT and SAT scores.... not that my GPA was bad...above average perhaps, but not fantastic.
I honestly hated the ACT system. I think it's very true that overall GPA shows better the quality of student you will be receiving into your college. I went to school with some very bright people. But they tested horribly. One girl was 3rd in our class, with a GPA, weighted, of 4.21. But her ACT scores were 18 and 19. She took the test twice. Because of that, schools wouldn't take her. I was so pissed off. But in keeping with the original question of this thread, my ACT composite scores: December 2002: 29 April 2003: 29 December 2003: 29
Standardized tests are useful in that they are a way to compare everyone on a standard system. GPA doesn't quite do that. Of course, I don't believe either method measures actual intelligence or potential that well.
Yea I'm gonna be a dickhead and say she scored low because she's probably not that intelligent. Sorry, but I encountered lots of kids like that and all of them were pretty dumb, they just had high gpa because they put in lots of work, did lots of extra credit, etc. But had a fuck of a time comprehending even intermediate level algebra, or understanding poetry.
Sorry, but I call bullshit. This girl was in AP Chemistry, AP Calculus, AP English, and every other advanced class offered. And she was one of the best tutors IN MY SCHOOL. She was intelligent, but she just couldn't test. I'd watch her hand shake during tests all of the time, sweat beading off of her forehead, with an anxious look, because she just couldn't work within a timed segment. And I know more people like that, just not with her drive.
Yea I know people like that too, see my last post, "a fuck of a time" can also mean "a very long... extended period of time." Your friend can't work within a timed segment? Sounds super-ultra-mega 'advanced' to me! rofl, what's she going to do in the real world? Just start shaking and breaking out in mean sweats everytime her boss gives her a time limit? Maybe some hives? I don't work very fast but come on, was she going so slow that she only finished half the test? A 19 on the ACT, that is like national average I think. Care to name off any schools that didn't accept her? PUT YO PENCIL DOWN AN WIPE THAT SWEAT OFF YO FOE-HED BITCH, YOU'S GOIN TO COMMUNITY CALLIDGE. :X
I'm not a good test taker...some people just aren't. I do really well on essay tests, but I'm just not good at multiple choice questions... Some people are different kinds of intelligent... To the above poster...how do you know this girl wasn't intelligent? You don't know her...don't be a jerk.
lol, i was just having a little fun, cause I got the kind of vibe like "o the world is so unfair to my genius friend " ... time to wake up. Hanging on the verge of an anxiety attack because your knowledge and ability is being tested sounds far from the description of someone who is going to excel. College is another big business and yea it sucks when you don't get accepted, but what do you expect them to do when your test scores are that low and they've got BUSINESS on their minds?
