I think I may have been a christian all along! I've always been very much against Christianity and, when someone told me they were a christian I would almost aggressively try to change their opinion but once, a little while ago I had an epiphonous few hours and wrote a mad thing about how the world should work. Some have said it's communist in its ideals, some anarchist, some socialist, some neo-liberal but since I read a chapter in the bible last night (The fellowship of the believers, in acts) I think Jesus got there b4 me. Oh well, I guess original thought is pretty much impossible. The long version of the idea is already posted on these forums here: http://www.hipforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4240 But I've done a more succinct and perhaps realistic version that is only a page long which I will post soon... watch this space. Has anyone else realised they were a christian recently?
Just because you may have a christian view does not make you a Christian. To be a Christian you must accept and follow Christ... uc?
that happened to a friend of mine who was an anarchist communist. we where tripping on acid one night and he was describing to me a perfect community. everything he was saying, was just like this place i knew of that was a christian community called jesus people. so i told him this and he was so disapointed that something like that had to be based on god. i live there now and it really is awesome. i am a christian.
LOL! Well.. heheh..... I think what Campbell was aiming at was - Your going to trust JC for your Salvation Ticket. Then you would be defined as 'A Christian' in the classic sense. lol... hehe your reply got me laughin here hheheh..
i am a christian...i have fully accepted God and will love him and worship him and trust him as long as i shall live. Letting him into my life was the best thing i ever did....where my life seriously lacked happiness, purpose and motivation...it doesn't now. roly.xxx
I fail to see what accepting God has to do with being Christian... Chritianity is a concerted effort to put other people between you and God in my opinion. Be that Jesus, Mother Mary, the priests, books and stories...
To me accepting God is everything to becoming a christian....Christ is at the centre of the faith.....if jesus is the centre the rest will follow. You're always so generalised in your ideas of christianity....different people practise it differently... roly.xxx
I think it is a stretch to call most of today's Christians followers of christ's teching. You said 'Jesus is the center of the faith...', 'Jesus is Christ'. Well duh, you are christian... but we are talking about GOD. I simply said being a christian doesn't necessarily have anything to do with 'accepting God'. Are you so righteous as to assume that is the only way to accept God? If you beleive this is the onyl way to God, then great, that is YOUR beleif. My beleif, as I stated, is that one can accept god without accepting the Jesus myth. God is called by many names and accepted by billions of people and only a fraction of them beleive Jesus was his only begotten son, born of a virgin to wash away your sins with blood. Jesus never said that stuff, so I am not sure why a true follower of Jesus' teachings would assume it is so.
i'm a big fan of the teachings of christ. i like having him as a role model as a good child of god. i don't think he was a myth, but i do know that he specifically requested us to worship god the father, not jesus the son.
The Jewish faith believes in God, but does not accept Jesus as Christ. But they are not called Christians because they are not Christians. Look below to see the definition of Christian. Being a Christian has every thing to do with accepting Christ. That is the foundation of Christianity. That is what being a Christian means... Websters Dictionary: Christian: A follower or disciple of Christ. Christianity: The religion of the followers of Christ That is what the word Christian means. You can be a religious person, (Muslim, Jewish, etc.) they all have their own names. But Christian means follower of Christ. Actually, Jesus said you could only come to the Father through him. Jesus never said that stuff? Jesus said: "Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only son." (John 3:18) "I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned" (John 5:24) "All that the Father gives me will come to me and whoever comes to me I will never drive away. For I have come down from Heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me" (John 6:37&38) "He who does not honor the Son, does not honor the Father who sent him." (John 5:23) "If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God and now am here" (John 8:42) etc, etc.
Yes i do believe i that is the only way.....i'm a follower of the christian faith and am a christian....i believe the gospel and so yes that is the only way according to my belief.....i didn't even mention yours. roly.xxx
epiphany ( i sooo spelt that wrong) i think you're great...you say the things i want to say....! roly.xxx
like i've said perhaps elsewhere, i have a hard time swallowing whole the political ramblings of his apostles when his actions spoke so much better for him. all i know is i read again and again where he told us to pray to god the father in heaven. that's good for me.
Roly, Real American, Thank you. I really appreciate it . However, I have to give Jesus the credit for giving me the words to say.
Just because I think Jesus was a cool guy and agree with what he stood for doesn't mean I believe every word of the bible. For a start, it was compiled, from what I imagine was quite a lot of documentation, by a Roman emperor who clearly had his own agenda. It would be very useful for him if everyone had to go through the church in order to find god. I am specifically disgusted with the idea that Jesus was God. If he was, why are they constantly referred to as two different entities? "God did this through Jesus" and "Jesus was the son of God" How can you be your own son? I certainly think you can call yourself a Christian without belonging to Christianity (by Epiphany's definitions) because the religion of the followers of Christ is based upon unconvincing documentation and the whole religion is based on following the crowd; there can't be contention because if two people think different things and one of them is good, the other must be evil. I think Jesus would want us to speak our minds. Talk amongst ourselves to decide what was right, not just blindly follow whoever happens to be leading the church and therefore interpreting god for us at that particular time. One thing he did seem to be against is heirarchies, yet modern churches are just that, heirarchies. And they're rich, Jesus loved the poor and condemned the rich.
