I make patchwork quilts, and do use recycled jeans in many of them. My son & I are working on a matched set right now for his bunk bed!

But I don't quilt them... I don't have the patience. I tie them.

I also tie my quilts. I never was able to do all that hand stitching and keep it looking neat. Here are a couple of pictures of quilts I've made.

Ha ha. Country's "in" right now...
    How do you tie them?
those quilts don't look any different to me than ones that have been stiched. Where does the tying come in?

Oh... instead of stitching the batting down all over the place, you just tie off the corners of each square with a yarn knot! It saves a ton of time :)

Yeah, that explains it. The purpose of quilting is to hold the three layers together, the front, the back, and the batting. If you don't do something to hold them together the batting will shift around and can bunch up in one corner or things like that. When you quilt, (sew the three layers together in a pattern either by machine or by hand) it holds the layers together really well. Tying the quilt together at various intervals does the same thing. What I do is after it is all put together I pin it all over the place and then go back and tie it. The black and blue quilt that I made my son is tied at the corners of every large block. On the four square blocks it is also tied in the center. That one is a little larger than a crib size. It's for my three year old. The blue and white one is tied at about every other row of diamonds. It is also tied at intervals along the side rows. This is a king size quilt that I made for my daughter's wedding. You can't see the prints in it but it is all moons and stars. My son's is astronauts and space ships and things like that. He has curtains and a pillow to match. I use embroidery floss instead of yarn. I think it holds up better.

    Supermommy, your quilts are beautiful.

    Nice quilts everyone!
I made this one with a tumbling block design in nice fall colors. Sorry, pictures are not very clear, but the closeup is the closest to true colors. I haven't had good luck with tying the quilts, so I end up freemotion stippling all of them, just like this one. And the last four quilts I made, I didn't prewash the fabrics and used all cotton batting, so after the quilting is all done, I through them in the washer and dryer and it gives them a nice antiqued look, because the batting and fabric shrink together just a bit and the batting gets fluffed up a bit, too.
    Peace.
