now you have my attention...i LOVE german chocolate cake, but never had it with kraut...how does one pull that off?
this a recipe off the net, but sounds simular to mine (ahem..my grandmas) http://www.sauerkrautrecipes.com/recipe021.shtml ¾ cup sauerkraut drained and chopped 1 ½ cups sugar ½ cup butter 3 eggs 1 tsp. pure vanilla 2 cups all-purpose flour 1 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. baking soda ½ tsp. salt 1 cup water ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder Preheat oven to 350 degrees Sift all dry ingredients together. Cream sugar, butter and vanilla. Beat eggs in one at a time. Add dry ingredients to creamed mixture alternately with water. Add sauerkraut mix thoroughly. Pour into greased pan or pans. Bake 30 to 40 minutes until cake tests done. Frost sourcreem frosting 6 oz. semi-sweet chocolate bits 4 tbs. butter ½ cup sour cream 1 tsp. vanilla ¼ tsp. salt 2-½ cup confectioners sugar Melt the chocolate bits with butter on low until smooth. lol...it might be good though, right? I mean, I hate kraut, and here I am thinking about trying it in german chocolate cake....
beer in cake...... my mind is working right now. im thinking a lambic kriek would work extreemly well in that recipe. kreik is a lambic beer with cherrie juice in it (from belgium) they dont taste anything like normal beer. they're more cidery and a bit sour
