Well I've had "dreads" (used backcombing method) for about 2 weeks now....and it doesn't look like theres been any progress. In fact the ones at the back of my head are unravelling, and there is alot of stray hair floating around.

Is there anything I can do to speed it up? Or do I just have it endure it? If so how long before I will start seeing a difference?

I have seriously been considering just shaving my head and starting over...this time using the rubbing method I've seen a few others do on this forum.

    Thanks for any input.

Hey man, i'm in the same boat as you right now. I started backcombing 3 weeks ago and I had some decent little locks, by the second week most of the ends were undone and I had tons of fly-aways. I was thinking of combing them out, but I sucked it up and stuck to it. I decided to bacomb some more and make them tighter, well it turns out that down at the roots I have some really nice tight locks. So i'm sure yours are getting tight at the bottom as well. Stick to it. I'm sure everyone else will say the same thing ... "give it time." Dreads don't happen over night ... It's a journey, enjoy every minute of it, the ups and the dows. =]

i'm not meaning to sound like an asshole or anything...and i haven't posted here in a long time so folks don't know me and it may come off that way...but i've been noticing a lot of people complaining about dreadies not forming after 2 weeks. honestly....if you thought that was gonna happen, you're going down the WRONG path. don't expect to see any wonderful progress with ANY method in less than a year. whether you go natural, backcomb, rub your head or put some weird funk in your hair....it's basically gonna look like crap for a long, long time. and i've seen a lot of kids with really nice locks on these forums telling people that same fact repeatedly and folks still don't seem to get it. so i'll just say it again....dreadies do not happen over night. thats all you need to know and the only truly useful advice you can get is develop patience. it's very valuable.

    Hair is hair.
let it be Hair let it sit check back in a few years and you'll have some dread lock's
like its been 7 to 8 months since i cut my dreads off, I only have 4 natural dreads and 4 others that I rubbed a few times a while back. the rest of my hair doesn’t even have a tangle init. but I cant spend the hole time moaning and groaning that I don’t have full set of natural locks yet, it takes time. Let that time be sacred.
