"Run for the Roses" is a great Jerry album. I like it better than some other Jerry stuff I've heard. The title track rocks. He does a great rendition of some Beatles song that goes 'She was just 17, if you know what I mean", (Saw Her Standing There?). I think he does it better than the beatles, cause I don't like the Beatles, and Jerry's the wiz. Has anyone else REALLY heard this album?
I got the Jerry box set back in august and listened to all the disks imediatly, this became my favorite right away, I can just put it in and let it play anytime. It has a really good selection of songs, has to be my favorite Jerry CD by far.
My personal favorite Garcia Band disck has always been 'How Sweet it Is' I think the performances of Cats Down Under the Stars and Like a Road are two of the finest later year recordings of Jerry out there - incredible!
im a "reflections" fan myself. Mission in the rain, is really a hip track, along with some of the bonus jams (orpheus and mystery train, you win again). I havent heard run for the roses, is it worth buying?
Yeah! and who the fuck is Keith? haha check out the grateful dead, donna jean was the female vocalist while her husband played keys with the band. ive never been a big fan of her addition to the music though...
donna was great with the dead. she gave so much. though not an original member, i think the dead lost somthing when she left, after keith's death. and the guys obviously enjoyed playing with her...she has been a part of Phil and Phriends and a part of Jerry Garcia band....her voice really compliments the music......it sends shivers up my spine.....
donna's voice is awsome but towards the end it seemed like she forgot all the words and only knew how so sing yyyyeeaaaahhhh yeah yeah yeaaaaahhhhhhhhhh.plus she'd leave the stage every 5-10 mins to get lit " i think her voice sounds best on the terrapin station album just casue ya can get a real taste for her style. ~luvin light sunny D
she left the stage to get lit? really? i always thought she just peaced out for a while because they were jamming....but i guess it could be true, if i was backstage i'd probably be smoking a doober.
just picked it up...has some of my favorite jerry songs on it! thanks for the reccomendation. I really like the version of peggy-o and a pretty sweet TUIB.
