Technically natural dreads just come from the neglect method. you leave you hair (wash it and stuff but dont condition... dont even THINK about it... over the years dreadlocks form without any help from you.

So if could i use shampoo? Or does it have to be the nonresadue kind...

I hate combing my hair. it takes up time and im not used to combing my hair... So thats the easy part...

The neglect method is going to take years?

I use tea tree oil shampoo. It is supposed to be residue free. To fully dread your hair it will take a year or two; that said, dreads will appear within monthes. I have had dreads for a little over a month and locks and knots are forming. There are some locks that are only held together by one little section of knotted hair, while there are others that are knotted about half way through and the roots are still not dreaded. I do palmroll my hair sometimes, but I never do the entire thing. The hair that I focus on is dreaded better than the hair I ignore. Sometime I'll try to get a pic of my hair on here... once I learn how to do it! I'm a little computer LD, but my man will probably show me how. Best wishes for your dreads!

    Peace & Love

hey! here are some pics of the "natural" dreading process. basically for me, it entailed never brusing or conditiong my hair (because i was lazy), but shampooing it often. my hair shrunk up SO MUCH, & i lost a lot of length, but it's cool to know that my hair just does its natural thing & now i have some weird-ass dreadies[IMG]
the start of my dreads, when i just stopped brushing, and:

my dreads now, about 2 years after the 1st pic was taken

I tried the neglect method and it just didn't work, I did not wait 2 years or anything but really seriously it did not work for me. I still don't comb my hair but my shampoo is not residue free.

Ah... Im to lazy to start a new thread...
So new topic is being declared by me :D...
So my Mom went to my Aunts and said see going to being me some wax. I told her she shouldnt get me any wax because of the things i heard. Then we got into this arguement on how to do dreadlocks. She wont believe me that i can just do the natural way. She says you cant do it with out wax or you need "black people hair"... >.>

So it brings me to my Question.... She (and my father, who then calls me a wigger)always brings this up when ever we discuss about dread locks. So... Do you need "black people hair" to get hair?

I seriously doudt it (because of all of you and all the other i seen in my city), but just to make sure :p
