Does birth control help women with their acne? I posted this question in the "birth control" forum, but no one answered.
Depends on the pill and depends on the person. Certain pills do tend to help most people with acne. My bf's sister was put on bc as a teen for that very reason (she's now a 30-something virgin, so the acne wasn't just an excuse!).
Some can make it better and actually clear it up, others can make it worse. Certain birth control pills are prescribed by doctors to clear up acne. I think they help stop some of the androgens produced in the body which can cause hormonal acne in women.
Yes, but not all are on medicare or covered so it might cost more. I went to my doctor and said i wanted to go on the pill. He had a medical book with all the pill types and what they do and also the combinations. I take marvelon which prevents acne, depression and weight gain. I had no problems. I don't have to take it at the same time everyday, just within 12 hours so it's all good. Go and ask your doc, if he's/she's good, they'll have paperwork on all the types of pill out there and can work out what you want. Don't be afraid to ask questions!!!! Trial it for a couple of months and decide to stay on it or try something else. Things like this can be trial and error.
