For as long as I can remeber, I've always been the quiet kid to most people. When I was younger I had 26 different speech impediments. Now however, I do alright. I speak and sing regularly infront of many people, though I'm still not a talented speaker. People hear me make long pauses and get words mixed up - cinnamon, deprication. Besides the speech impediment(s), the other reason I talked rarely when I was younger was my incredible shyness. This would usaully only be how I acted around people I didn't know. When I was around a friend I'd go crazy with the talking. Still, when a person I don't really know is around a group of my friends and I, I am pulled out of the circle and into the corner. This is onething I blame for my lack of a woman to hold. When I'm going over a song at home I sing it very quietly so that you can't understand the words unless your right beside me. I did this at first for fear of my parents hearing me. I still sing softly to not disturb my family but I concouisly try to sing louder now to no avail. I've played a game called "penis" on camping trips with a friend. No, it doesn't involve a penis. The object is to say the word penis in turns increasing the amplitude each turn until someone says somthing to you about it. Well, we were around almost no one so we were soon yelling the word as loud as we could over and over. Based on an opinion for someone listening beside us I couldn't get my "penis" up enough in amplitude to compete with my friend's. I believe when I move into my dorm this fall I'll impove the level of my voice greatly, especially if I end up in a single occpancy, like I applied. However, I'll still be haunted with the thought of the students in the room next to mine will be annoyed. Woe is me. here a link to some of my material: www.soundclick.com/bevai
hmmm, well it all comes down to the diaphram a good singer will sing from the belly, and force the sound up and out of the mouth, a poor singer will simply sing with thier throat try flexing and thrusting your abs(the muscles infront of your diaphram) as you sing, visualise the sound being projected from the base of your diaphram right up, and out of the mouth, like an explosion of sound that's about the only technical advice I can offer, the rest is just your personal confidence man, when you loose that inhibition your sound will come to you good luck, peace
i agree with all that yovo said, and a lot of it is down to your own confidence. dorms aren't exactly quiet places anyways, i doubt you'll disturb anyone so there's no point in worrying about it. aside from the diaphragm, i would say, drink plenty of water, keep your voice well lubricated, look after your physical health and sing everyday. your voice hasn't stopped developing yet. i would say just lose your inhibitions and have a bit of an experiment. i had a listen to some of your music, your voice already has a good tone, don't be scared of it.
