    http://animalid.aphis.usda.gov/nais/index.shtml

The above is a link with information on the USDA's new animal ID regulations, set to go into effect in 2008. These new regulations require the microchipping and tracking of livestock, even rabbits and such owned for private consumption. This amounts to total government control of the food supply in the US. There are no exemptions for small farms or homesteaders. It also requires that GPS coordinates be given to the USDA for any location where livestock may be kept. Records must be maintained whenever an animal is purchased, sold, born, dies, or is consumed.

A group has formed online in an attempt to stop or modify these regulations.

this seems to me to be a very prudent step in protecting our food supply! are you a cattle rustler or something? a greater threat to our food supply would be gmo"s and patented seed! especialy terminator seed that can infect neiboring crops and destroy the ability for farmers to save seed for next seson

Don't seem like too many here are gettin' the point. The fuckin' problem here is that micro-chip anything is nothin' but trouble. Anything like this which comes from the corporate world is BAD NEWS for how ppl wanna deal with shit locally on their own fucking terms - like they oughtta be able to, in any case.

Jesus fuck man, I can't believe hardly anyone sees the problem yet.

    Trin, I agree entirely!
This shit is real, and really scary to me!
Although most of the U.S. population is able to be tracked now, anyway, via our cell phones, eh?

Do you also believe that the "War on Terrorism" is making us safer? (Just like the "War on Drugs" (that has been going on for entirely too long, cost billions of dollars, and has no end in sight) has made this a safe, drug-free nation?)
Or that the Patriot Act is for our own good?

actually i think i see it more clearly than you !! i dont like the idea of chips but we already track livestock by outher means we have already had a problem with hoof and mouth in this country! so far we have been keeping madcow at bay! this tech. could make those efforts keep our food supply safer from one sale infect the whole country! witch could move into the wild. and infect the last few heards of bison that we have left!!! so i think i get it!! be free and dont let them keep your dog rabies free!!!! just my thought!!! peace!

Well, cows, goats, chickens, ducks, geese, horses....
Control the food supply, and you control the people.

Perhaps I'm approaching this wrong. see, I'm opposed to it in a property rights, personal freedom sort of way. Perhaps what is needed is an anti capitalism spiel.
See, this whole thing was concieved of and is being pushed by dollars from the really big meat companies. They've allowed themselves exemptions from the rules that aren't available to folks raising food for themselves. The big guys don't have to track every animal. The purpose from their angle, is to drive the small farmers and homesteaders out of business, so that everyone in the US has to buy their meat. Well, all the non vegitarians, anyway.

i understand your concern. and i hope you didnt take my cattle rustlr comment as being to harsh it was meant as a joke. i went back and read some more of the link you provided, and still have not found any refrence to the the exemptions you speak of. (please clarify) also how do you see this as driving small farmers and homesteaders out of buissness? it is my understanding that most cattle are already taged and tracked inspected and injected(hehe) in a very inifeicant way. do you feel this to be unnessisary? do you beleive that pepole have the right unknowing or knowingly sell infected or desiesd animals, wether it be big buissness or an individuals? if so what might be the repucussions?( i point to the latest bird flu millions of poultry had to be destroyed) how would you prevent this sort of thing? and your comment (all non veggies anyway) i actualy beleive they are under a greater threat in the short term anyway! so heres my opinoin, i beleive its a good idiea for the porpuse of stoping the spread of desiese! it would be more efficiant accurate and less costly in the long run.imho. i see genetic patents as being a mutch greater threat to our food supply than tracking farm animals with chips! please excuse my spelling i suck at it and as a one handed hunt and pecker it takes to long to correct lol peace!!!
