if you exist enough to doubt your existence your more real than those who cant. I would suggest a good strong pinch to be sure though
I have questioned my existance many times... Some say that we have dreamed up everything around us, and none of it is real.. But wouldn't we dream that everything is wonderful, instead of a world full of war and hate? Some people I know wonder if they are in a coma or something similar and this is everything that is going on in their mind while they lay in a hospital bed... They are imagining the way their lives would be, unaware that anything is wrong. It's a rather interesting topic, actually.
We define our own existence... Existence is a concept we humans have created, so it is only natural that we should apply it to ourselves.
I am, I exist. If you can think that or say it, you exist. Whether or not you have a body, arms or legs, or you are actaully reading this from a computer is another question. You do exist if you can think... but that's as much as you can prove true.
i've always been rather satisfied with the logical explanation, i think therefore i am. the problem i've been having lately is with the existance of logic, cause if that doesn't exist then whether or not i exist is totally up in the air
if u think about anything ull come to a point where u just cant figure it out. no matter how much science or experiments u do, scientists are just wasting their lives.
I think that you exist, but you ultimately have to know that you exist and give yourself permission to feel that you exist. Don't avert your eyes into things that ultimately blind you to the very nature of your existence (even though we all do this every day, especially me) then you will see that you exist and that is all the world requires of you.
Makes sense, but honestly existence has no real meaning as such, (for what I believe) but before you kill me for being nasty I'll say its upto you to give your life a reason to exist, and a purpose to keep you going strong, to keep you focussed. I often feel the same. When I'm drunk especially, I'll walk home, wonder whats wrong with me, why I don't feel like I'm going anywhere, hell I think too much. At the end of the day, its the people you love, and the things you want to achieve that make you special and important.
if "I think therefore I am" is true then how do you know you really are thinking? What if "thinking" is only something that you precieve as "thinking" but really isn't thinking but something else entirely?
Nah rhyso you're not nasty, that was a good reply. And i think sometimes its inevitable that you will give yourself reasons to exist, because the human brain seems to crave for some sort of logic to which explain things. But don't you ever wonder what it would be like to just 'exist' without any reason at all? Is it possible?
Maybe to make life a little more easier you should try instead of questioning your own existence, to question the existence of the ones around you, i mean, have you ever looked around and thought that whats happening just couldnt possibly be happening? well it seems a lot more logical to me to say that there not real than your not, you know your own feelings thoughts and emotions, you can show compassion, so you must be real. the question is " can they", or "are they really thinking or acting on what your thinking about". just though it was something more to fill up your heads with and turn your brains to mush. lol
It is very possible, as a Buddhist practicioner of meditation (which I assume you are) one of the goals of meditation is to acheive that very state, and people do it all the time. Very fun and intriguing although I have not yet myself done it. I too have brought myself to near tears wondering if I even had free will, if every action is caused by another action before it, then so are thoughts, every thought is caused be another thought before it, and all thoughts are is different neuro-chemicals doing their work, I've thought before that we had no free will and weren't even reallly people. I do believe in a soul now though, as a person with no free will would not worry about if they had it or not. Just like the man living in the cave all his life, not worried about weather he has an outside to go to or not. Long post I know my apologies
