The attack on the Twin Towers killed maybe 4000. In the name of the War on Terrorism (Is that the justification?) Bush has managed to kill more than half that many young Americans in Iraq. In addition to that he's directly responsible for the deaths of what 30, 50, 100 thousand Iraqis? All this at a cost of a third of a trillion dollars so far and counting. Unfortunately no matter how much we spend we still probably can't expect to eliminate completely the threat of another domestic terrorist attack. But even in the most grisly realistic scenarios any terrorist attack is unlikely to claim,as in the case of the Twin Towers, more than a few thousand lives. (Which reminds me. Saddam Hussein was a THREAT??? He couldn't even shoot down one lousy american flyover. Some threat. How was he going to deliver his (nonexistent) chemical and nuclear weapons? By rowboat? On Lufthansa? "Miss may I put this nuclear bomb in the overhead luggage?") Do you know how many Americans die each year from smoking tobacco? It's like 400,000. High cholesterol? At least 150,000. Obesity the same. MVAs and influenza each around 50000. There's lots of potential for saving big numbers of lives in any of those. So it's like at least 40 thousand lives taken and $350,000,000,000 spent so far for what? To save a few thousand lives? Does that sound to you like blood and money well spent? You who are always bitching about taxes and the government wasting money? You're telling me this is a priority? Is there anyone out there who has a facsimile of a brain? Get real. It's nothing but mass delusion. Orchestrated by fools for fools.
Stop right there dude.. you think Bush orchestrated this.. or are you so drunk you wrote this wrong... I do think you need to enter 2006 and stop living in 2001.
I think those intent on amassing executive power, of which they have long claimed the erosion and then too for their own unsavory reasons, did just what I would have done if I wanted to amass power. They seized the moment on an occasion of national tragedy to hoodwink the public.
I guess our goverment did this with the London bombings..? What is sad is that 2001 is so absrtract now..any manner of delusions about all this are and can be perpetuated.. I believe you saw those towers fall and had this same thought you have been trotting out for i guess 4-5 years.. Sorry if this is rude.. but it is insane.
$350 billion and tens of thousands of deaths to save a disproportionately small number of the same maybe -- that's what's insane. An insanity of allocation of resources.
Don't put a cost on the price of freedom. In the long run those deaths could shape a better life for millions of Iraqis.
Yes... better life... do you read the Times? You should... interesting article this week about how quite often if Iraqi's didn't understand American army hand signals the americans would shoot to kill. As a US soldier wrote on a wall in Bahgdad... "die raghead die".
But the difference is we were already at war in Iraq... it didn't spark a war. In fact the other way round - the fact we we allied with the US in Iraq was the motivation behind the London bombings.
SDS - who cares how many of the Iraqis/afghanis died....can we justify them killing the 4,000 in the World Trade Center? no. Mathew - Who cares how many Americans died in the world trade center....can we justify killing all those Iraqis/afghanis?....no... Can you ever justify taking another beings life? I think not. Was this a complete tragedy? YES Of Course it was.... Is it still a complete ragedy? Yes, not only because so many more have died and still died because of a war that never should have begun, but also because nobody has learned anything from this........No instead we are known around the world even more as ignorant Americans......you know wars are great political tools.....in the media they call it "unification of the people in America"....well it didn't last for long....... Say what you will- whether you think the war is over oil...whether you think it is so that Bush can amass power....or whether it is just simply retaliation....... CAN YOU HONESTLY JUSTIFY KILLING ANOTHER BEING? Taking their life? Wiping out their existence?....if you say yes, you are just fooling yourself, because if you were standing next to a buddy who just got shot in the middle of a war by the enemy.....you would want to kill the guy who shot him right?......it doesnt matter that your firend was trying to shoot him..... See...violence breeds violence........love breeds love.....Their are people fighting thousands of miles away as government puppets.....they have no choiuce to hop on a bus and go home.....so why fight in here? We all know deep down that regardless of what happened, killing is wrong......and we all know that we don't want anyone else to die......so maybe instead of bickering in a forum we should think about things like - What can we do to create peace? How can we build up our own defenses here at home so that it does not invade the citizens lives, but helps prtoect.......What is the international view of our country's actions that would cause such attacks on us in the first place?........Call me un-American, I dont care....I love my heritage, and I love this piece of ground I live on......I love our constitution, our bill of rights..........I don't love war though.
It was a sarcastic question.. seriously if you think it was the goverment.. then you seriously need to refresh you study of what happened. I seem to remember you having all this dealt with a few hours after the bombings.. ?.. Thats why i can't take your point seriously.. i am afraid. Of course they where going to blame there actions on Iraq..does not mean they had any valid point though. A handfull of individuals used the same illogical zealotry to carry out the killing of dozens of people... Something flipped in those peoples minds and they chose to agree with OBL and his beliefs. If you read the statements Al-Quaeda put out then you would quickly realise that they have altered there rationale to fit in with the media and your POV.. They are laughing directly at you..because they realise you would rather believe what you do.. than believe that they are complete mad bastards.. fuelled by hundreds of years of trying to destroy 'infidels'. I guess it is easier to blame the goverment than spend time thinking that OBL and Al-Quaeda plus those that fall for there bullshit [like it seems you do]...are the ones preaching hate ...and have no other motivation other than the death of infidels and a muslim state in iraq.. heck a Muslim world. Why did thay blow up muslims as well ?.. Now the London bombers where not as crazy as abu hamza: "These missions would increase the number of satellites for military purposes. It would increase the slavery of governance of other countries by America. It is a punishment from God. Muslims see it that way. It is a trinity of evil because it carried Americans, an Israeli and a Hindu, a trinity of evil against Islam. The fact that the motor of the craft fell on Palestine - all these are messages from God. It is a strong message, for the Israeli, to be taken up there to space and he spoke about the Holocaust, to try to make religious advancement from it and gain some moral high ground, hence you have seen this message over Palestine." http://www.answers.com/topic/abu-hamza-al-masri http://today.reuters.co.uk/news/newsArticle.aspx?type=topNews&storyID=2006-01-12T165923Z_01_HO246760_RTRUKOC_0_UK-SECURITY-BRITAIN-HAMZA.xml Infact i think they where no more intelectualy cognitive about the things they spoke of than 15 year olds wishing to join a band after listening to the sex pistols...all a little naive.. Al-Quaeda even blame the Queen It is understood that al-Jazeera has been told that it contains a further commentary from Ayman al-Zawahiri, Osama bin Laden's second in command, in which he allegedly refers to the Queen and to other planned attacks. He claims that Muslim leaders in Britain are taking orders from the Queen in her role as the head of the Church of England, saying they "imitate her and issue fatwas in accordance with her religion". http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2005/09/04/nkhan04.xml&sSheet=/news/2005/09/04/ixhome.html
Get real. Not only is a third of a trillion $$$ an insane amount spent in an attempt to save relatively few lives -- especially when the same expenditure could save thousands in other arenas -- the truth is that the international (extraterritorial) War on Terror is just making matters worse. Witness events taking place in Pakistan right now with people up in arms over the recent Predator/bomb one-two punch. Exactly what we don't need. *** An update on the cost of the war. Estimates are that over the next fifty years economic loss and medical support costs to care for wounded veterans missing various body parts and functions will reach two to three trillion dollars. Up to ten times the cost of the current conflict. Which ain't over yet. When you give big fools big power you suffer big losses. There is absolutely positively no sense in a war that costs more in lives and money than the lives and money it's supposed to save. It's not even close. How thick do people's skulls have to be to fail to understand that? With no brains inside I guess it doesn't really matter. If you really want "victory" in Iraq then get off your asses and go in and take the place. Like some say we should have done in Vietnam. Yeah we can clean it all out go in and build a giant golden ager community it's nice and warm there awash in petroleum for plenty of SUVs hey call it Sunni City. Maybe Bush would like to retire there. But I'll guarantee you two things. Number One it won't get you where you want to go. Number Two you'll pay a hell of a price.
I don't know who you are telling to 'get real' but i agree with you here.. ''exactly what we don't need'' well done Packistan for hauling the diplomats ass in for some deep questioning.. The people 'up in arms' are 'anti America' anyway but not really the point.
Imo most of the motivation between these terrorists to strike is due to general hate for America or even more likely is that a whole lot of people are being brainwashed by religion. As for America I believe Bush thinks the right thing to do is move the world into thinking like America so theres no opposition and complete peace. The only problem with this is hes trying to accomplish this through killing more people than were killed on 9/11 and most people value their culture.
The 7/7 mastermind was an MI6/CIA asset. Need I say anymore? Just watch this clip: http://www.infowars.net/Pages/Aug05/020805Aswat.html Anyone who thinks Arabs are behind these so-called terrorist attacks are buying into a big lie. The "terrorist" fairytale is a lie, people! It is your government orchestrating these events, not merely taking advantage of them. The bombing of the WTC in '93 was an inside job. The Oklahoma City bombing was an inside job. 9/11 was an inside job, and so were the 7/7 attacks in London. It's clear to anyone who has actually studied these events, instead of mindlessly accepting, hook, line and sinker, everything the media tells you to think. It's all about PROBLEM-REACTION-SOLUTION!
