Nature Song I’ve grown sick of holy songs Of mournful hymns and sacred names. That demarcate our rights and wrongs That keep us wallowing in shame. I much prefer the brighter notes That walk along a smiling beat. When I hear them, my soul floats. The ground departing from my feet. I should imagine that the Lord Would rather hear the bright ones too. For monotony would make God bored. To hear melodies that are so blue. Nature writes out many notes And leaves them growing ‘cross the Earth. Many songs that man has wrote Are endowed with nature’s worth. Exultation found in song Is often how I like to pray No matter if they’re short or long, ‘Tis always a spiritual display. I sing for sun! I sing for rain! I sing for beauty ‘cross the land. I sing to end all human pain. And empathy towards fellow man. So just before you sing a song Of dour days and goodness lost. Remember your life is not long And nature’s splendor has no cost.
